pairing: kimi antonelli x fem! singer! reader (i used tate mcrae as a face and album claim because she's so fucking good)

f1WAGgossip Trouble in paradise? Singer/songwriter, WAG to Kimi Antonelli, and sister to Max Verstappen, Y/n Verstappen, recently released a song called 'it's ok, i'm ok', possibly alluding to the idea that Kimi might've cheated on her! Cliché : ̗̀➛ Robert "Bob" Floyd x Reader
Pairing: Robert "Bob" Floyd x Reader
Summary: There's always a joke surrounding weddings that the Maid of Honor and the Best Man will end up falling in love; it's one of the oldest clichés in the book. When you're the Maid of Honor, though, Bob Floyd wouldn't have it any other way.
Warnings: insane amounts of fluff, insane amounts of pining (my god I couldn't stop), maid of honor and best man trope, kind of friends to lovers, language, Hangman is Hangman, female reader, reader is very creative and can dance, UCSD info might not be accurate I don't go there, suggestive and steamy but not explicit, language, probably incorrect descriptions of the Navy (my dad was a Marine, I'm doing my best lol)
Word Count: 13,515 words

“Natasha Trace, my best friend…will you marry me?”
The Hard Deck erupted into a chorus of excitement the minute that Natasha told Bradley Bradshaw yes through a curtain of tears. Bob was cheering right along with them, elated for his two best friends and to know that Rooster had pulled off the proposal he’d been stressing over for weeks now.
The couple had made the rounds in the moments after. Maverick and Penny were the first to congratulate them both, and Bob could’ve sworn he saw tears in their Team Leader’s eyes as he hugged Rooster. Hangman had a snide remark under his breath, but gave the couple both his heartfelt congratulations, followed by Fanboy and Payback.
“Couldn’t have done this without you, Bobby boy,” Rooster clapped his best friend on the back, bringing him into a tight hug before letting Natasha hug her back seater. “Bob’s been helping me plan this for weeks, making sure everyone would be here tonight for the engagement party. The greatest future best man a guy could ask for!”
“Bradley, it can’t be an engagement party without our families,” Natasha had quickly argued back, shooting Bob a bright smile. “But thank you, Bob. It means the world to both of us.”
“It’s what you both deserve,” he’d told them wholeheartedly. “Seeing my best friends happy is all I want.”
“Going back to your engagement party comment,” Bradley cut in, shooting his now-fiancée a cheeky grin as he gestured behind her. “Don’t think I didn’t think of everything.”
Bob laughed along with Rooster the second Natasha turned around, shouting in glee at her family standing directly behind her. She’d thrown herself into her mother and father’s arms, given her sister a tight hug, and a whole new round of tears had sprung as they admired the ring on her finger. Bob nudged his best friend with a grin.
“You did good, Rooster,”
“Oh, this is just the beginning,” Natasha’s attention was turned back to Bradley the second she heard him say that, raising an eyebrow as she missed the sneaky smiles on her family’s faces.
“What else could you have possibly pulled off tonight-”
“Give your man props, Nattie. He knew if he proposed to you without me in attendance, one of us would likely kill him,”
It wasn’t the first time Bob had ever seen you, but it was the first time he’d ever seen you in person. Natasha had shown him many photos of herself and her childhood best friend, the girl she considered more of a sister than anything else, many times before in all their time knowing each other and working together. He’d seen the elementary photos, the awkward middle school photos, the prom photos, and the intermittent photos taken throughout adulthood, anytime the pair of you could find time to see one another.
He hated that, based solely on photos and stories of you, he’d grown the most schoolboy crush in the world on you. He wasn’t sure if there was an “unspoken” code about crushing on the childhood best friend of one of your own best friends, but he felt like it definitely crossed a line.
Rooster was laughing from Bob’s side as you and Natasha practically bounced around in circles together, talking a mile a minute as you admired the ring sitting snugly on her left hand now. With arms wrapped around one another, you’d both turned back to the boys as Bob watched you flash a smile in Rooster’s direction.
“Bradley, nice to finally see you outside of FaceTime screens. And nicely done with the ring, I’m glad you took my advice,”
“Who was I to question the advice of the master?”
Bob felt his breath catch for a moment as your gaze finally turned to him, and he could see you fully for the first time in front of him.
God, you were even prettier up close than in your photos.
“You must be the infamous Bob that I’ve heard so much about,” Bob wanted to melt under your smile as you flashed your attention toward him. “Thanks for keeping my girl safe in the skies.”
“Well- I’d say she keeps me safe more…”
“Team effort, at least take half the credit,” you’d joked to him, before Natasha had quickly pulled you into conversation once more.
It was stupid, Bob thought, to have a crush on a woman he’d never even met before. He couldn’t help it the entire night as he watched you talk and joke with Natasha’s family, the way you so effortlessly made conversation with the entire Dagger Squad, even though it was the first time you’d met them all. Through photos, videos, and stories alone, Bob had gained a schoolboy crush. But now, as you animatedly explained a story of you and Phoenix from your childhood, he could feel his crush growing from seeing your personality shine.
Thankfully for Bob, he’d barely have to see you. You’d fly home most likely the next day, and the next time he’d see you would be for wedding preparations. That’d be plenty of time to get over his dumb little crush on his best friend’s childhood best friend.
“I’m telling you, it was the funniest night of our entire lives!” Natasha was practically in tears, and so were the rest of the Dagger Squad members as you choked out your words through your own laughter. Bob had a hard time looking away from you as you spoke. “I’m up there on that stage, sold out high school theater guys, ready to give my really intense monologue, and suddenly the set wall just comes CRASHING down with Nattie here clinging onto it!”
“I warned them during set construction that the wall was just begging to fall down!” Natasha laughed, leaning back against Rooster with a shake of her head. “That was immediately the last time I let this one here talk me into helping with the school musicals. Never signed up again, no matter how much she begged.”
“And wait, this was opening night too?” Fanboy chimed in from his space beside Bob as both women gave him a nod. “That somehow makes it even funnier. I can’t thank you enough for bestowing us with the gift of these stories tonight.”
“Yes, yes, consider them a tiny gift for all of Nattie’s friends here tonight,” you turned away from the rest of the squad to look at your best friend, though. “It’s your engagement party, though, so I think it’s time that I gave you your gift.”
Bob could see the smirk on Rooster’s lips as he watched the pair. Bob, along with the ret of their friends, watched intently as well as you dug a key out of your back pocket, dropping it into Natasha’s hand without another word. Bob’s front seater cocked an eyebrow, examining the key in confusion.
“A key…how…nice?”
“Well, I have to make sure someone in this city has a spare key to my place,” Bob felt his breath catch for a second, catching onto your words before Natasha did, as you beamed at your best friend. “To my apartment, over in Logan Heights! If I’m going to be the newest Professor at UC San Diego, I’m going to need a place to live-”
If there was a contest for trying to break the sound barrier with a scream, or even how much one person could cry in a single night, Natasha Trace was pretty close to winning them both. Between her shouts of “YOU’RE MOVING TO SAN DIEGO?” and a lot of loud crying, as Rooster smirked, letting his friends know he knew about this surprise, Bob knew this night had quickly become absolute perfection in both of his friends’ eyes.
Bob also knew that now, his plan to squash his little crush on you had failed before it even had the chance to begin.
He’d managed to avoid seeing you for a few days, but that didn’t mean that Natasha had shut up about you. Every day, while thousands of feet in the air, he’d listened to her ramble on and on about how the pair of you had always wanted to live in the same city together once you were settled in your careers, and she was finally getting her wish. She’d also run about a thousand ideas for how to help you decorate your apartment by him, and somewhere in there had tricked him into agreeing to help herself and Rooster set up your apartment.
“I can’t thank you all enough for the help,” you’d told the three standing in front of you one early Saturday morning, giving them all thankful smiles, before turning to the multitudes of boxes stacked around your living room. “I…frankly have no idea where to start. The boxes are all stacked in their corresponding rooms, and there are a ton of IKEA boxes that need to be assembled in just about every room.”
Rooster clapped a hand on Bob’s shoulder, bringing the attention of both women back to the two of them.
“Good thing Bob and I are masters of IKEA furniture,” Bradley put on an air of confidence as he said it. “When Payback and Fanboy got their apartment a few months ago, we were in charge of all the furniture assembly.”
“And given that we managed to build a bedframe upside down, I wouldn’t call us masters,”
It was the giggle you let out at Bob’s comment that brought his attention back to you, an involuntary flush spreading across his cheeks. You gave a mock salute to the pair.
“Well, how nice it is to know I have such capable young men on my side,” you gestured with your head toward the hallway behind you. “I’ll steal Bob for help with the dining room if Natasha, you and your man can handle my bedroom without putting my bedframe together upside down.”
With another laugh shared, Rooster and Phoenix were quickly moving down the hallway toward your bedroom, but Bob caught the over-exaggerated wink that Rooster sent his way before disappearing into what he assumed was your bedroom.
Trying to calm the blush evident on his cheeks, Bob joined you in the dining room directly off your kitchen. You’d already set yourself down on the floor, breaking into the IKEA box laid before you.
“Can you take that so I don’t lose it while getting all these pieces out?” you’d laughed, handing Bob the instruction manual. He took it from you with a nod, quickly flipping through the packet in his hands.
“A ‘GRÖNSTA’, because that’s not a mouthful,” Bob commented under his breath, but loud enough for you to hear as you laughed again. He took a seat on the ground opposite of you,, placing the packet off to the side and helping you take pieces out of the box, while also trying to calm the heat still prevalent in his cheeks. “Doesn’t help that the instructions don’t make any sense.”
“Right? You’d think the Swedes would learn that their pictures aren’t very helpful,” you both shared a laugh as Bob watched you flip open the instructions, grabbing the pieces needed for the very first leg of the table.
It was torture, almost, being around you with a crush that felt so middle school being harbored inside of him. He barely knew you, but every time you talked and joked, he knew he was already digging himself deeper and deeper into a hole.
“You said the other night you’re a professor?” Bob had settled on asking you about yourself. You were Natasha’s best friend, and now you lived here; getting to know you was going to be inevitable. You gave him a slight hum as an answer, intent on screwing in the leg of the table to the tabletop that Bob was holding in place. “What uh, what will you be teaching?”
“I’m a professor in the art department, there’s like a whole slew of classes I’ll be teaching,” you explained to him as Bob held the table steady so that you could screw in another leg. “Music, theatre, dance, and probably whatever else they throw my way.”
You passed the tools off to Bob as you stood, holding the table upright on it’s two legs so that he could screw in the last two from the ground below you. Truthfully, Bob was thankful for the table between you two, because the more he looked at you, the more he couldn’t stop thinking about just how gorgeous you were in person.
“Take it you’re a creative person, then?”
“After some lead roles in high school musicals, followed by a stint on Broadway fresh out of college…yeah I’d say creative is a good word to use,” Bob laughed, moving out from under the table slightly to grab the final leg from just a few feet away, glancing up at you.
“Broadway? My older sister is a big musical fan, she’d go nuts knowing I know someone who was on Broadway, now,”
“Well, you can tell her that I’d be happy to tell her all about it sometime. I’ve got a whole slew of fun stories from different shows,” you gave him another grin, still holding up the unbalanced table. “I’m surprised Nattie didn’t tell anyone about my Broadway stint; she talks about it like a proud mother to whoever will listen.”
Bob found himself locked in place as he laughed at your comment, fidgeting with the last table leg in his hands as he smiled up at you, finding himself locked in conversation easily. Despite his raging social anxiety that Rooster and Hangman desperately wanted to fix, Bob found it entirely too easy to talk to you.
“To be fair, when we’re thousands of feet in the air, we have a few things to focus on for the sake of our lives,” both of you shared a laugh at his comment. “She’d told plenty of stories about you, though. Showed a lot of photos and videos, too.”
“Good, because she’s told me plenty about you,” Bob could see your grin widen, no doubt because of the red flush overtaking his skin at your comment. “Her incredibly smart and kind WSO with raging social anxiety. Not sure I believe that last part, you seem to be doing just fine.”
“On the outside, maybe. Typically, on the outside and inside, I’m about as useful as a newborn baby deer,”
The laughter that you let out as his joke, Bob decided, was now one of his favorite things. He was so entranced by it that he hadn’t noticed you’d accidentally let go of the table until it had fallen back on him.
The gasp you’d let out rang through the room, but it was broken apart by the laughter that seemed to be flowing out of you even harder now. Bob took a second to adjust his glasses on the bridge of his nose before shoving the table off of him. Your laughter paused for a moment as soon as the two of you locked eyes, before you both devolved into a fit of laughter that had Bob almost curled in on himself.
“I’m so sorry!” you had finally managed to get out words after a solid few moments, wiping tears from your eyes as laughter still broke through your words. “I didn’t mean to do that!”
“Good, because I don’t want to explain to Maverick that I died because of a ‘GRÖNSTA’,” the pair of you devolved into laughter again as you held out your hand for him. Bob took it, despite the full-body flush he felt at simply touching your skin, and let you hoist him back up to his feet.
“Alright, next time I see you, I’m buying you a drink as an apology,” you told him with a pointed look as you moved past him to grab the instruction book.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever you say, Ikea,”
“Hey!” Bob laughed as you gasped at his comment, whacking him lightly with the instruction booklet as you grinned at him. “There’s no way we’re making that my nickname!”
“I promise it’s better than any call-sign Hangman will come up with for you-”
“What the hell is happening out here?”
Bob turned on his heel to face the hallway just as you did. Rooster looked lost at what was happening outside the bedroom, as did Natasha, but Bob could see the slightest hint of a smirk on his friend’s face as she looked at him. Bob turned to look at you, just as you looked at him, and you both devolved into another round of laughter that had Rooster even more confused.
Bob Floyd hadn’t stopped thinking about you after that night. He thought about you constantly, how your hand fit and felt in his own, about your laughter, and about that beautiful smile on your face. He was in deep, and he knew it. You never left his mind until he saw you again at the weekly Hard Deck hangout with the rest of the Dagger Squad.
“Well, well, well,” Hangman’s Texan accent was heavy tonight as he turned his gaze away from the pool table before him, and the meaningless game he was playing against Coyote. “Phoenix brought her shadow along tonight!”
Bob turned his head, a smile crossing his lips at the sight of you walking up with Phoenix, two beer bottles in your hands as you rolled your eyes at Hangman’s comments, but Natasha was the one who spoke first.
“I was more so her shadow growing up, followed this one everywhere,” she nudged your shoulder before taking a seat at one of the high tops next to Bradley, smiling widely as he leaned in to kiss her cheek. “Figured, now that she’s settled in, it was time to start bringing her around to the weekly night out.”
The conversation continued, but Bob’s eyes and grin were glued to you. You made a beeline for his side, leaning against the high-top chair he was seated on and passing him one of the beers in your hand.
“Nice to see you, Lieutenant,” you teased him, clinking the top of your bottle to his own. “I did say I owed you a beer next time I saw you.”
“Thanks, Ikea, I’m sure it will numb the pain of that table falling on me,” Bob threw back, laughing as you lightly hit him on the shoulder the second he said that nickname. “Settled in well?”
“All thanks to you guys and that entire day full of furniture building,” you shot back at him, taking a swig of your drink as you turned to watch the pool game in front of you, still leaning against Bob’s chair. It had you close enough that Bob was overwhelmed by the scent of your perfume, and he decided in that moment it might be his new favorite scent.
He then scolded himself in his head for how weird that sounded. This crush was getting out of hand.
Coyote let out a groan as Hangman beat him once again, the latter letting out a loud whoop that had the rest of the Dagger Squad laughing. The pilot’s attention turned immediately to you, a frown appearing on Bob’s lips immediately as he recognized the flirty grin on Jake’s face.
“What do you say, little lady?” Hangman emphasized his accent even more, making a show of gesturing you toward the pool table with the pool cue in his hands. “Want to play a round?”
You hummed from beside Bob, leaning over him to place your own drink on the table as his face immediately flushed at the action. You didn’t seem to notice, stalking toward the pool table and picking up Coyote’s previous pool cue.
“8 ball or 9 ball?”
“9 ball, I’m all about making shots,” Hangman called back, gesturing toward his side of the table. “Payback can rack ‘em for us. What do you say, sweetheart? Ready to be partners with the greatest pool player Miramar’s ever had the pleasure of hosting?”
“Absolutely,” you shock back, and Bob paused in his sip of his beer as your gaze shot back toward him. “Let’s go, Lieutenant. You’re my partner.”
There was a collective laugh through the entire squad at the look of shock on Hangman’s face, that he quickly tried to wipe away and pretend as if your comment hadn’t affected him. Bob froze for a moment, but the inviting smile on your face drew him to your side within a heartbeat.
Hangman and Coyote were a good pairing, but somehow you and Bob managed to be just slightly better than them both. Bob let out a cheer as you sunk the final ball of the game, happily accepting the high five you sent his way as Coyote and Hangman groaned, having come so close yet so far from winning out.
“Nice shots there, Bob,” you shot at him, nudging his shoulder with your own as you placed your cue down on the table. Bob could feel the confidence he’d been feeling the last hour slightly fade at the close proximity to you, at the sweet smile you were sending up at him from your place next to him.
“Yeah uh- yeah, you too, Ikea-”
“Ikea?” Payback questioned as he and Fanboy hopped up to sit on the table next to the dejected Jake Seresin. He pointed between Bob and their newest friend. “Like…the Swedish furniture place?”
You laughed, your hand coming to rest on Bob’s forearm with a squeeze that had his heart fluttering in his chest.
“Inside joke, Payback, and it’s going to stay that way,”
Bob’s friend went to counter them with another comment when Natasha and Bradley returned to the group, an entire tray of beers in hand as Natasha whistled to get everyone’s attention.
“Alright guys, we’ve got another round of beers for the group,” most of them whooped and hollered as Bradley passed them all out, before Natasha turned to Bob and her best friend to hand them the two in her hands with a wide grin. “And two very special ones for our best friends.”
There was a beat of silence as Bob took his drink from Natasha, taking a swig before he felt something on the outside of the bottle. He turned it over in his hands, seeing a piece of paper barely attached by a thin strip of tape, Rooster’s handwriting scrawled across it:
You might be Phoenix’s back seater, but I want you to be my wingman this time: be my Best Man?
Bob almost felt tears in his eyes as he looked up at Bradley, who was waiting with a grin on his face. Overwhelmed with emotion, Bob simply nodded, standing up as he brought Bradley into a tight hug as the rest of the group realized what was happening before them and began cheering.
“OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD, YES!”
Bob and Bradley both turned to see you flinging yourself into Natasha’s arms, the pair of you jumping and crying together. His eyes trailed to your bottle, long forgotten on the side of the pool table, with a piece of paper bearing Nat’s handwriting taped to the neck:
It was always going to be you: be my Maid of Honor?”
“You know what they say about the Best Man and the Maid of Honor, right Bob?” It was Bradley’s voice mumbled into his ear with a hint of teasing laced through it, his best friend’s hand clamped down on his shoulder with a squeeze. “It’s almost inevitable that they fall in love.”
Bob never had a second to truly process Bradley’s words before Natasha was getting the attention of the entire group once again, with you still glued to her side.
“It might also be a good time to tell you guys we picked a wedding date…we’re getting married in six months!”
The cheering of the entire group ceased for a moment before everyone seemed to shout all at once.
“WHAT?”
Planning a wedding was hard enough on the Bride and the Groom, and it was hard on the Best Man and the Maid of Honor as well. But to somehow turn it around in only six months, especially when almost everyone involved was a Navy fighter pilot who spent most of their time thousands of feet in the air, it made it even harder.
It was even harder for Bob, as he accepted his ‘schoolboy crush’ had grown into a full-blown crush on you, maybe even borderline infatuation, not even a month later than that night at the Hard Deck.
Bob had been a stumbling, blushing mess when you’d given him your number that night after the announcement. It made sense, given that it was going to be up to the two of you to plan most of the festivities leading up to the wedding. It was hard because, besides Bob’s growing affection for you, he couldn’t get the thought of what Rooster had mumbled to him out of his head.
He’d yet, though, worked up the courage to text you regarding ANYTHING other than wedding festivities planning…which were all conversations you had started first.
“Hard Deck, 6 p.m., don’t be late!” Phoenix called out to Bob as she walked away, tucked under Bradley’s arm as they made their way toward the latter's truck. “Hangman insists on that pool rematch tonight!”
“Let a guy shower first!” Bob called back, waving goodbye to his friends as he climbed up into his truck, wiping sweat from his brow. Another day that ended with over 200 push-ups from Maverick, and he refused to show up to the Hard Deck without showering first. Before he could put his car in drive, his phone went off, and his heart skipped a beat as he read your name across the screen.
Soooooooooo, huge favor to ask you here, Bobby…
Bob did his best to calm the hammering that his heart was doing inside of his ribcage. It was just a simple text, that’s all, asking for a favor. He’d texted you before, and while this potentially may not be wedding-related, he could certainly text you again.
Anything, what’s up?
Anything? God, could he make his pining any more obvious? He didn’t get long to mull over his own words before you’d already typed back to him.
My car is in the shop, and a coworker gave me a ride in today, but she had to leave early. I know I promised Jake that pool rematch tonightany way you could swing by and pick me up from campus?
I know campus is WAY in the opposite direction from the Hard Deck, it’s totally okay if you can’t!
Was Bob freaking out inside? Absolutely. He knew you worked on UCSD’s campus, but he’d never been to your office; he had no need to go there. The last time he’d also been fully alone with you was building furniture and dropping tables in your apartment, and picking you up meant being alone with you…plus, it wouldn’t give him time to go home and shower, and the last thing he wanted to do was put you off potentially because he was sweating buckets in the San Diego sun all day.
Before he could psych himself out, as if there was a little Rooster on his shoulder coercing him, Bob replied.
Of course, send me your office address.
About a half hour later, Bob was forcing himself out of his truck and up to the doors of the building housing the Department of Theater and Dance, frantically trying to fix his hair so he looked semi-acceptable. He’d already had to convince himself that a fifth layer of deodorant was not needed, nor was a second spray of the spare cologne he kept in his car.
Walking through the doors and into the building you’d given him directions to, Bob realized fairly quickly that he was absolutely lost and had no idea how to get to your office. Spotting a receptionist off to the side, Bob made his way over to her and cleared his throat, asking politely for directions to your office.
“I didn’t think Siren had any meetings on the schedule for today…” the receptionist trailed off as she raised an eyebrow at him. Bob let out an awkward laugh, glancing to her nametag and making a mental note that her name was ‘Sydney’, before answering her.
“Uh, no ma’am, sorry for the confusion. I’m a uh…friend of hers. She asked me to pick her up,”
Sydney’s eyes seemed to widen as she smiled, happily sitting up now in the chair once he’d explained himself.
“Oh! You must be the Lieutenant. Bob, right?” he gave her a nod as she typed something at her laptop before turning back to him. “Siren told me you’d be dropping by and would probably need directions- oh, and don’t mind the nickname, it’s just kind of a little inside joke around here that stuck. Take those stairs up to the second floor, the right side is dance studios, and her office is at the end of the hall to the left!”
With a quiet thank you, Bob followed her directions up the stairs and down to the left, though he could hear the music blasting from the dance studios down the hallway. At the very end of the hall, he saw your name on the plaque outside the one door ajar in the hallway.
With a light push to the door, so as not to freak you out, Bob leaned against the doorframe as he saw you working away at your laptop, singing softly to yourself as your own music played. He smiled softly to himself at the sight, even though inside he was still freaking out over the entire situation.
“So…Siren, huh?”
You jumped slightly at the voice until you turned, seeing that it was just Bob standing in the doorway of the office. He watched as you gave a slight laugh, beginning the process of packing your things up as you explained.
“God, of course, Sydney used that in front of you,” you turned, shooting him another smile as you packed your laptop away. “Context to this stupid inside joke probably helps, doesn’t it? I taught a salsa class my first week here, and this one student of mine thought I was such a good dancer she explained that my ‘dancing was so captivating, like a Siren’s song,’ and the next thing I knew the entire staff was calling me that.”
“Not a bad nickname,” Bob tried to reassure you as you joined him at the doorway with your things. “Better than your callsign being your name…or Hangman turning it into baby-on-board instead.”
You rolled your eyes, taking hold of his arm in your hand and dragging him lightly from the office doorway to lock up behind you, hopefully unaware of the frantic beating of his heart at even the slight contact.
“I’d rather get called that than get named after leaving my wingmen out to dry,” you gave him a pointed look that he laughed at before your features softened into something genuine again. “Thank you for being my hero today.”
“Anytime, Ikea,”
It was only halfway through the night at the Hard Deck when you’d let slip to Penny your nickname at work, and like vultures, the rest of the squad was dying to hear the story.
It was that night that, after living in San Diego for a month and a half, Bob watched the rest of his team officially induct you as an honorary member of the Dagger Squad with your very own callsign: Siren. You were officially one of them, even though you basically had been since the moment you’d arrived in the city.
From that day on, something shifted for Bob. He’d chalked it up to the ease he felt around you, the way you made him feel like he didn’t need to be flashy like Hangman to be liked, and he’d found it easier to finally branch out and text you about things NOT related to the wedding. And slowly, but surely, he was stopping by the campus on his very few rare off days from work to bring you lunch, simply talk to you in your office, or offer you a ride to the Hard Deck, knowing full well your car was parked in the campus lot.
Bob spent the next weeks slowly, but surely, falling in love with you in every way imaginable, and he knew it. It terrified him how easily you’d secured a place in his heart, and you weren’t even aware you had. Phoenix and Rooster had tried to pry the information out of him many times, wondering why he was so engrossed in his phone all the time or why he was suddenly so smiley, but he kept his lips sealed.
Besides, how was he supposed to tell the woman controlling the fighter jet that could kill him that he was kind of falling in love with her best friend?
It was one of those very rare off days that Bob found himself cleaning out his truck in his driveway, knowing that there were a few jackets and extra pairs of shirts, and pants to change into after leaving base that needed to come out of the car and into the wash. What he hadn’t expected was to find your jacket.
You’d worn it the night before to the Hard Deck, actually needing Bob to pick you up since your car was once again in the shop. The temperature was predicted to drop drastically that night, and since Payback and Fanboy had the bright idea to do ‘late night dogfight football,’ you’d told him that you wanted to ensure you were warm. You must have left it in his car when he’d dropped you off that night.
Bob hesitated for half a second before climbing into the driver’s seat of his truck. What if you needed your jacket? It totally wasn’t an excuse to see you.
Sydney knew him well at this point, simply waving hi to him as he entered the familiar campus building. He’d waved back, giving his thanks as she called out that you may not be in your office at this hour.
She’d been correct, but Bob had been by enough to know you had your class schedule written out on the board by the door of your office.
Contemporary Dance, 11:30 a.m. Room 149
The signs were easy enough to follow, leading him down the hallway toward the area he knew held the multiple dance studios. Your voice was easy enough to pick out as he stepped inside the room, catching you leading your class in front of the full wall of mirrors. He’d never seen you dance until now, but it only took a second to see why they all called you Siren.
You moved in a way that was graceful yet powerful, commanding and yet gentle all the same. Bob had to adjust the way he was leaning against the doorway, cursing himself for the fact that he was enjoying your dancing way too much, and the dirty thoughts in his head were fighting to come to the surface. You deserved more than being thought of in that way. You deserved a proper date, maybe over a nice meal with a walk along the beach. You deserved chivalry, for him to always open every door and walk on the outer edge of the sidewalk to keep you safe. You deserved more than his boyish, improper thoughts. What you deserved was the world, and Bob would give it to you if you just said the word.
You’d locked eyes with him in the mirror as the song and dance with your students came to an end, and his heart soared at the way it seemed your face lit up simply at seeing him. You bid a quick goodbye to your students, ushering them out of the room and onto their next class, before it was just the pair of you left as music still played over the room’s speakers.
“You didn’t text me and tell me you were coming?” you questioned the man, moving through the room to fix things up and put away anything your students had managed to move in the process of the class.
“You forgot this last night,” he held up your jacket. “Just figured I’d bring it back, sorry, I should’ve texted-”
“Bob, you’re more than welcome here whenever you want to come,” you cut in quickly, gesturing toward the far wall where your purse lay. “Thank you, just toss it over with the rest of my stuff.”
Bob did as you asked, now fully in the room with you, as he watched you fiddle with things around the room, moving them back to where he assumed they were before class had started. His hands found their way into the pockets of his jeans, keeping himself from wringing his hands together or from fiddling with the rolled-up sleeves of his flannel over and over again.
“I’ve never gotten to see you dance before…I get why they call you Siren,” he swallowed the small lump that seemed to form in his throat, slowly losing his nerve around you like he typically did. “Wish I knew how to do…all that.”
“Well, thank you, contemporary was one of the dance forms I primarily trained in during college,” you shot back at him, spinning on your heel to face him now as you tilted your head. “And come on, anyone can dance, it’s not that complicated.”
“That’s because you’ve never seen me try,” Bob laughed at himself, sheepishly rubbing at the skin on the back of his neck as he looked away from you. “I look like I have two left feet when dancing. Who knows how I’m going to survive this wedding in a few months.”
There was silence in the room before Bob heard you move. His eyes trailed back to you, watching as you grabbed your phone for just a moment, before the sweet sound of Kina Grannis’ voice overtook the room. His eyes stayed glued to you as you came to stand in front of him, holding out your hand with your palm facing the sky as you wore the prettiest, softest smile he’d ever seen.
“Dance with me?”
Bob thought surely that was the moment his heart was going to decide to give out on him, but in gazing at your kind eyes and smile full of affection, he placed his hand in your own and let you lead him.
God, your hand fit in his like it was made to be there.
He silently watched you, allowing you to wrap his one hand around your waist, giving it a squeeze before trailing your other hand to rest on top of his shoulder.
“Take a deep breath,” he followed your instructions as you gave a squeeze to his hand, still wrapped in your own. “Just follow me, I promise it’s not hard.”
Bob found his eyes glued to your feet as you slowly moved him around the room together, mumbling apologies every now and again as he stumbled or stepped on your toes, but you only ever gave him a comforting squeeze to his hand or shoulder. He never dared look up at you, afraid he’d lose all his cool if he had to look you in the eyes in this close proximity.
When he stumbled once more, you gave a small laugh, hand moving from his shoulder to his neck, gently tilting his jaw upwards to look at you.
“I promise it’s much easier if you don’t watch your feet,”
His eyes met yours, and it was like the entire world went silent in that moment, but the music playing through the sound system seemed to get louder.
But I can’t help, falling in love with you.
“There are those pretty blue eyes,” you teased as a blush coated his cheeks in seconds. It brought on another smile to see a similar one on your own, though. “Did Bradley tell you about their bachelor and bachelorette party idea?”
“He said they had an idea, just hadn’t told me yet,”
“Nat told me they thought a big combined party would be best, given that this friend group is just one giant pile of pilots,” Bob laughed, missing the feel of your hand on his jaw as it moved back to his shoulder. “Guess you and I have to get planning.”
“Maverick said Cyclone made it work so that we can all have a week off for it, just have to let them know when,”
“Perfect. Know what else is perfect?” Bob shook his head as your grin widened. “You are dancing perfectly since you stopped looking at your feet!”
Bob’s eyes widened as he looked down at his feet for just a moment, realizing you were right, before looking back up at you. It was like the world was throwing every sign in the world at him as the music seemed to feel louder once again.
For I can’t help, falling in love with you.
Swallowing the lump that had formed in his throat once again, Bob mustered the softest smile for you he could.
“Guess I just have a great teacher,”
The weeks passed, and the wedding was only a month and a half out. You’d flown home with Natasha to your hometown in order to wedding dress shop with Nat’s sister and mother, and every detail had been meticulously planned out for the wedding. The venue had been chosen, a gorgeous little venue in the heart of San Diego just big enough to house the 150 or so guests that had been invited, and just a few blocks walk for the wedding party and family members who would be staying at the Lafayette Hotel San Diego.
The Best Man and the Maid of Honor had finalized the plans for the joint bachelor/bachelorette trip: a week stay in a gorgeous home by the Colorado River and just an hour’s drive from Lake Mead and Las Vegas, plenty of options for relaxing and true partying, just as Bradley and Natasha wanted. It had taken a while for Bob and you to hammer out the details, many dinners had been held in your office after stopping by, and many phone calls that managed to devolve into late-night conversations having nothing to do with the party planning. But Bob wouldn’t have it any other way.
He was hopelessly in love, and he knew it. Unfortunately for him, Bradley had caught on, too.
“Let’s go!” Natasha called out to the boys as they hopped out of Bradley’s truck, already running through the parking lot toward the campus building housing your office. “I want to get on the road before Hangman and the others beat us there. I want the best pick of the bedrooms!”
“Sweetheart, we’re the Bride and Groom, I’m pretty sure we automatically get best pick,” Nat flipped off her fiancé as the boys both laughed. The second she’d turned around, Bradley threw his arm over Bob’s shoulder and tugged him in. “So…want to finally tell me what’s up with you and little Miss Siren?”
Bob shook his head, trying to fight off the flush on his cheeks. The questions from Bradley on the topic had increased tenfold over the last few weeks, and it was getting harder to lie to him.
“We’re in charge of handling a bunch of the backend shit of your wedding, Rooster,” Bob managed to remind his friend as they reached the doors of the campus building. “We spend a lot of time together, that’s all.”
“But you’re in love with her, are you not?” Bob groaned, opening the glass doors and letting Bradley walk ahead of him. “I’m just asking! We can all see it, the entire squad has money in the betting pool for when you two will finally buck up and figure it out. Phoenix has interrogated her so many times and gets nowhere on it.”
“We’re about to leave on your joint bachelor/bachelorette trip, there’s enough love in the air with the two of you. Don’t worry about me and my non-existent love life,”
Bradley made another comment under his breath, but Bob didn’t catch it. His gaze quickly found Natasha at the receptionist's desk, talking to Sydney.
“I’ve been here once, but the building still confuses me. I can’t remember how to get to her office,” Natasha explained to the girl as Sydney simply laughed, waving it off.
“I understand. I used to get confused here all the time. It’s just up those stairs-” she cut herself off as she saw Bob and Bradley approach, her face brightening up at the sight of the former. “Oh, Lieutenant! You guys don’t need directions, he knows where he’s going. I think she canceled her last class of the day, so she should be up in her office!”
Bob felt that flush return in full force as Bradley clapped him on the shoulder.
“Not in love with her my ass,” he gave his shoulder a squeeze after mumbling the words before moving to his fiancée's side, and Natasha was just watching Bob with a cocked head.
“How often are you here, Floyd?”
Bob stumbled for a moment, his hand immediately coming to rub the back of his neck as he tried to find the words. He wanted to say he wasn’t here THAT often…but he knew that was a lie.
Like always, you somehow managed to save the day.
“Oh! I told you guys you could’ve waited in the car!” you’d called out, descending the stairs from your office with your suitcase for the week in hand. You bid your goodbyes to the two students walking at your sides, coming to stand beside Bob as you glanced around the small group with a questioning eyebrow. “I could cut the tension with a knife here. What did I miss?”
“Just…learning some new information,” Natasha settled on, a grin lighting up her face as she hooked her arm through your own, dragging you away from the two boys who could only laugh. “IT’S PARTY TIME!”
An almost 6 hours drive to the booked AirBNB for the week was a slight pain in the ass, but the four of you managed as you all continuously joked that you hadn’t ended up delegated to ride in Hangman’s truck with him. Bob couldn’t help the fact that every so often, his gaze drifted to the backseat in the rearview mirror, to where you and Nat were engrossed in a thousand different conversations that differed from his own and Rooster’s.
Without fail, you seemed to be looking back at him every time with a small smile that he treasured as if it were the sun itself.
Hangman, Payback, Coyote, and Fanboy had, sadly, beaten the Bride and Groom’s group to the house, but any bitter feelings surrounding it were forgotten as they’d gotten a look at the gorgeous home in person. Nestled in an area of the desert with barely any neighbors and gorgeous views for miles, including the Colorado River just down the hill from the long driveway, no one could harbor any ill feelings about anything as the sun was setting over the mountains and bathing the entire home in red, oranges, and pinks.
Bob had taken his own suitcase and yours, ignoring your protests, and brought them into the house. Everyone seemed to be running about, checking out the amenities, as some people put their claims on the bedrooms already. Natasha had dragged you off in the direction of the game room when Bob caught sight of Rooster whispering to Hangman and Fanboy, all three men watching him with a smirk.
“Hey, baby-on-board,” Hangman called out for him, smirk growing ever cockier by the second. “The rest of us have already staked claim on rooms, and of course, the couple has to share. Only room left is the sofa bed room in the back of the house…think Siren would mind sharing with you?”
If Bob’s eyes could pop out of his head, they would’ve. He shook his head, already knowing by the smirks on all three boys’ lips that this was planned well in advance.
“Guys-”
“Hey, Siren!” Fanboy called out just as you’d reentered the room. You stopped dead in your tracks, cocking an eyebrow at the guys as you waited. “Claims have already been staked on most of the bedrooms, perks of being the first ones here. You don’t mind sharing with Bobby boy, do you?”
“Guys, really-”
“I don’t mind,” you’d cut off Bob’s comment as he turned to you, eyes wide. He wasn’t sure if it was his mind playing tricks on him, but he could’ve sworn he saw a flush cross your own skin as you looked at him. “Really, as long as it’s okay with you, I don’t mind.”
Bob looked back at the boys and their expectant smirks, then back to you, before finally taking a deep breath.
“Yeah…yeah, that’s fine with me,”
The truth was, Bob could barely focus on the entirety of dinner with the squad. He laughed, made jokes, and participated in conversations across the entire table the entire night, but his mind was stuck on the fact that he had to share a bed…with you.
Those nerves didn’t rest even as you both retired to your room for the night. The sofa bed had already been pulled out and made for the two of you. Bob had simply crawled into bed in silence, situating himself under the covers.
You entered the room moments later, having changed in the bathroom down the hall, and sent him a sweet smile as you crawled into your own side of the bed. Lying side by side, heads on their respective pillows, you both simply lay there and smiled toward one another.
“Sorry you got stuck with me,”
“I didn’t get stuck with you,” you’d rolled your eyes at his comment. “I’d take sharing with you over any of those Neanderthals any day.”
“Just promise not to drop any tables on me this trip, okay, Ikea?”
You’d laughed, even as you’d reached your foot out under the covers and kicked him lightly on the shin.
“If I managed to do that, I think I should get an award,” it was his turn to laugh as you flipped over, turning the bedside lamp off before tucking yourself into the covers. “Night, Bob.”
“Night, Ikea-”
“We’ve got to STOP with that nickname,”
He’d fallen asleep comfortably that night at your side, still laughing lightly to himself over that dumb little nickname he had for you that had found a way to stick. He wished his sleep had lasted longer, but it was quite the sight to see you leaning over him and shaking his shoulder with a grin.
“Get up!”
Bob groaned as you moved back to your side of the bed, reaching over to the nightstand to grab his glasses. The second his eyes focused, he checked the time on his phone. Slightly after 5:30 in the morning. Bob let out another groan when he saw the time.
“Why are you awake-”
“Just trust me and come on!”
He’d barely been out of bed and on his feet when you’d taken his hand in your own, dragging him down the dark hallways of the house. He wasn’t even fully awake enough to register your hand wrapped around his own.
The second you’d dragged him out onto the large patio deck of the home, he understood why you’d woken him up so early. If sunset had been pretty from this view, sunrise might’ve been even prettier.
The deep purple hues that crawled across the sky, blending into the fading night sky full of stars over the desert. The beginnings of reds and pink crawling out from the horizon, casting itself over the rolling desert hills and the Colorado River just barely in the distance, close enough he could see the colors reflecting off the water. He’d found himself leaning against the railing, gazing out at the colors for a moment before turning to you at his side, finding you already looking up at him.
“It’s gorgeous, isn’t it?”
You’d turned back to the view, but Bob’s eyes, full of wonder, stayed locked on you as he spoke.
“Prettier than anything I’ve ever seen,”
You’d stayed out there for awhile, small talk flowing through you, reminiscing on moments with the squad such as that terrible late night dogfight football, or the time you’d all watched on as Rooster handed Maverick’s ass to him in pool at the Hard Deck. Your hands sat on the railing next to one another, just barely touching, as your arms sat pressed up against one another. If Bob had more confidence, if he’d thought that maybe you felt the same for him, he might’ve taken the leap and reached out to take your hand in his own.
Neither of you had any clue how long you’d been out there admiring the view and simply talking. Bob heard a small noise behind you both after a while, glancing behind you both. Rooster simply stood in the patio doorway, a genuine grin on his face as he raised his coffee cup at his best friend with a wink, before leaving you alone together once more.
It was a week of memories that none of them would ever truly forget.
The entire day spent on the shores of Lake Mead was full of laughter, and what Fanboy had nicknamed ‘dogfight chicken’, though it didn’t have any different rules than a normal game of chicken did. You and Bob had reigned victorious through every single round, though Bob wasn’t sure how. His thoughts were flooded with you, and the impure thoughts he was having at the thought that his head was, quite literally, between your thighs as you sat on his shoulders, was driving him insane.
That next morning was worse for his thoughts, when he’d awoken early in the morning to you nestled in his arms, head resting against his chest, and his arms wrapped around you. He’d laid still like that for what felt like hours, both terrified of waking you up and freaking you out with the position you were in, while also savoring every second of it in fear it would never happen again. He’d pretended to be asleep when you finally woke up, letting you be the one to extricate yourself from his arms. Neither of you mentioned it to the other.
One full day and night had been dedicated to the Las Vegas strip and all it had to offer. Rooster was constantly nudging Bob in the side the entire day, reminding his friend that his eyes were supposed to remain on your face, not on the slit of the dress you wore running up and exposing your thigh.
No one knew who had drunkenly suggested it, but somehow they’d found themselves at a Magic Mike show. Plenty of videos had been taken as a form of blackmail as Hangman was subjected to a lap dance from the performers of the show, constantly telling Coyote to ‘piss off about it’ the rest of the night.
That next morning, Bob had woken up to you entangled in his arms once again. And the morning after that.
The Dagger Squad’s final day of the trip was spent together at the home, simply enjoying one another's company as more stories of everyone’s childhood had been shared across the board. Bob had even been roped into a story of him working on his parents' ranch back in Montana at one point, which prompted a whole discussion on whether Bob was technically considered a cowboy or not.
The WSO had found himself frozen in the kitchen that night, simply watching you from the window. You and Natasha sat on the patio together, pointing up at the light pollution-free sky as you seemed to be watching the stars, discussing what could be seen that night, hundreds of thousands of miles above your heads. He’d watched you throw your head back laughing, and that tug in his chest when he looked at you seemed to increase tenfold in that moment.
It wasn’t long later that Rooster was opening his bedroom door, coming to find that it was Bob standing on the other side of the door and knocking frantically.
“Bob-”
“You were right…I’m in love with her,”
“Well,” both boys turned, seeing Natasha had entered the hallway at just the right moment to join her future husband for bed and hear the conversation occurring. Bob’s blood ran cold, fearing the worst, but she simply smiled at him. “It’s nice to finally hear you admit the obvious.”
A long conversation with his best friends came with the feeling of a small weight being lifted off his shoulders, of finally having admitted his feelings out loud. They’d encouraged him to act on it, to tell you how he felt, but Bob couldn’t get rid of the nagging insecurity in the back of his head that he was never going to be good enough for you.
When he’d returned to your room that night and crawled into bed, you were still awake. You had both simply laid there in silence for a moment, staring at one another, and Bob could see the hesitation in your movements for just a moment. You seemed to throw your inhibitions out the window, moving across the bed and slotting yourself into Bob’s arms, curling yourself around him as you buried your head into the crook of his neck.
It threw Bob for a loop. Every night this week, you’d awoken like this, tangled together, but he’d assumed that it had just naturally happened in your sleep, that one of you reached out for the other. But you were awake, you were both aware of what you were doing, and yet you took the leap anyway. Bob chose not to push his luck, not to ask, and simply wrapped his arms around you, closing his eyes with you tucked right against him where he felt you belonged.
“Can I tell you something?” Bob whispered to you after moments of silence wrapped up together, neither of you addressing the compromising position you’d put yourself in.
“Always,”
“You…” Bob struggled for a moment, trying to find his words and the right thing to say. ‘Love’ was dancing on his lips, but his insecurities tugged it back in. When he spoke again, he knew he meant the words, even if it was not what he meant to say. “You’re my best friend. Don’t tell Rooster that.”
There was a pause, then a soft laugh, as you seemed to cling to him tighter, your words and breath ghosting over his skin.
“You’re my best friend, too. Just don’t tell Nat,”
There had been another shift in the relationship between you and Bob in those next few weeks leading to the wedding night, and everyone seemed to be able to see it. A simple confession, albeit not the confession Bob had wanted to say that night, seemed to change everything.
Anytime the group was out together, you both were glued to one another’s side. This time, unlike in the months prior, it was as if the pair of you had to be touching. If you were all walking somewhere, your arm was linked through his with your hand resting on his bicep. The entire group noticed the way that, as you all hugged one another goodbye at the end of a night, you and Bob seemed to linger in one another’s embraces longer than usual.
There was the night at the Hard Deck, laughing over some story Maverick was telling them from the glory days, that Bob felt your hand reach for his under the table, wordlessly slotting itself into his own. That moment replayed in his head every single day and night, even as he fell asleep late into the morning hours with you still on the phone with him.
They were the moments that he couldn’t help but replay constantly, even as he stood in the preparation room of the wedding venue, adjusting his dress whites to ensure that nothing was out of place.
“How are we looking over here, Rooster?” Hangman called out, moving through the room to check on the groom himself.
“Ready to do this thing,” Rooster told him as Bob joined the pair across the room. Bradley placed a hand on each of their shoulders, his Best Man and his only other Groomsman, all standing together in their matching Navy dress whites, and gave them a thankful smile. “Thank you both for doing this. For being here with me.”
Bob grinned at his best friend as Rooster pulled them both into a hug, before it was go time.
Bradley was already stationed at the altar behind the double doors before them, leaving Bob to stand just behind the doors, ready to lead the charge down the aisle for his best friends to get married. He turned as he heard the voice of Natasha’s sister behind them, taking her place beside Hangman for the walk. His gaze then turned to you as you slotted yourself to his side, and it took everything in him not to whisk you off your feet the second he laid eyes on the form fitting, navy blue dress clung to your body, or the plunging neckline he was desperately trying to keep his eyes off of.
“She’s all set up with her dad back there,” you’d told him softly, winding your arm through his as your hand lay on his forearm, eyes never leaving his own. “We’re good to go the second the music kicks in. You ready?”
“Think Rooster would kill me if I wasn’t, he’s antsy down there,” you’d laughed, and Bob had smiled. His favorite sound in the world. “You…you look beautiful.”
“Right back at you, Lieutenant,”
There were smiles and tears throughout the crowd as you and Bob led the charge down the aisle, taking your places on either side of where Natasha and Bradley would stand. The second Natasha was escorted down the aisle by her father, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house, Rooster and you included. Bob found himself watching you, though, as you happily took Nat’s bouquet from her hands through your tears.
They recited after their Pastor, they exchanged their vows, but Bob found his eyes betraying him and glancing at you more often than at his best friends. Every time he looked to you, he found you were already looking at him.
He knew there was no going back the second Natasha Trace and Bradley Bradshaw were pronounced man and wife, that they’d pulled one another into their first kiss as a married couple, and his eyes had drifted to you in the celebration. All he could think in that moment was that he wanted that to be you and him, that he wanted to hold you and kiss you and call you his forever.
It felt like a blur to Bob what happened next. The entire Dagger Squad joined together to perform the Arch of Swords for their best friends, smiles never leaving anyone’s faces. Bob had sat right next to you during dinner, unable to keep his eyes off of you the entire time. Then, you’d rose to your feet and took hold of the microphone passed to you, preparing for the speech you’d spent your entire life writing.
“If you don’t know me, the truth is you probably indirectly do. Because any story that Natasha has told you from any point in her life? I was most likely at every single one of those,” you’d turned to Natasha the second you said that, and Bob could see the tears in both of your eyes. “Natasha, or as many in this room know you, Phoenix, you hit me on the head with a soccer ball in Kindergarten, and I knew from that moment on you would be my best friend. I watched you fall in and out of love with both soccer and softball growing up, witnessed you punch two middle schoolers who broke my heart, and watched you fall in love with the idea of someday flying F-18s for the rest of your life. I’m forever proud to say that I’ve watched you achieve everything you’ve ever wanted in life, and I’m so happy that I’ve gotten to be here for all of it. But most importantly, I’m glad your passion also brought you the love you have always deserved. Bradley, I’m proud to call you one of my best friends in life now, and I could not be happier to know that you two have found one another.”
You’d raised your champagne glass through your tears, as the room followed suit, even as Natasha silently sobbed from her place beside Bradley.
“They say that love is simply just a friendship that caught on fire,” Bob’s breath caught for just a moment, swearing that he saw your eyes flicker to him for just a moment, before you continued to talk. “May it burn bright for many years to come, and fly higher than you both do every day in the San Diego skies.”
There were still the remnants of tears streaming down your face as you took your place beside Bob once again, allowing Natasha’s sister to give her own speech. Bob watched you in silence before, in a leap of faith, reaching his hand out for your own. You took it without a word, squeezing onto it in a vice-like grip and refusing to let go.
The reception was in full swing, and everyone was in party mode. Natasha and Bradley were the stars of the show in their first dance, revealed in their speeches previously to have been taught by none other than you.
The bouquet toss had the entire Dagger Squad erupting into cheers, almost trying to carry you off the dance floor, the second Natasha’s bouquet seemed to find you among the young women in the crowd as if meant just for you.
You. God, you had consumed every ounce of Bob’s thoughts for weeks and months now, and tonight was no different. In the ever-changing landscape that was life, you were like the North Star in Bob’s eyes, his one constant since the moment you’d walked into the Hard Deck.
“As a wedding gift to us, could you just grow some balls and finally ask her out?”
Bob jumped, startled, as Bradley and Natasha appeared at his side from where he stood on the outside of the dance floor. He sighed, seeing the expectant looks on their faces, before glancing back to where you danced with the rest of the fighter pilots you’d grown so close to over the last few months.
“She’s, like, walking perfection on legs, guys. She could do better than the socially awkward fighter pilot that is…me,”
“Except she doesn’t want to,” Natasha cut in. She sighed, resting a hand on Bob’s shoulder before glancing out toward her best friend. “I’ve known her my entire life, Bob, and she doesn’t take to people the way she’s taken to you. She looks for you in every room, she talks about you constantly…she was dying to meet you just from the photos I’d shown you. I’ve never seen her act the way she does when she’s with you, Bob.”
The words sparked a small flame of hope in his chest, a flame just strong enough to push away the insecurities that begged to claw their way out. He looked back at his best friends, the glow of marriage surrounding them, with that flame of hope shining in his eyes.
“What if you’re wrong?”
“What if we’re right?” Rooster cut in, giving him a small shrug. “Maverick said it best to me months ago…don’t think, just do.”
Don’t think, just do. Maverick always knew what to say, didn’t he?
A slower song had begun on the dance floor, and Hangman could see Bob stalking their way. A smirk crossed the man’s face as he took hold of your hand, spinning you in Bob’s direction, before leading the rest of the Dagger Squad off the floor.
Bob stood in front of you, mustering every ounce of confidence he could find in him, as he held out his hand toward you, palm facing the sky.
“Dance with me?”
A smile might’ve been permanently etched into your lips as you took his hand in yours. Bob’s other hand immediately found your waist, his hand resting on your lower back as he tugged you into him as tightly as he could, your other hand resting on his shoulder as the iconic Berlin song played through the reception.
Watching in slow motion as you turn around and say…take my breath away.
Neither of you said a word for a minute, though your eyes never left one another as you simply swayed side to side across the dance floor, fully aware of the watchful eyes of your friends on you from the sidelines.
“You know…” you were the one to start the conversation, somehow managing to pull yourself even closer to Bob. There was a teasing tone to your voice, nose bumping against his for a moment. “I’ve been kind of waiting for you to ask me out for months.”
A weight seemed to leave Bob’s shoulders the second you spoke, his mind finally being calmed with the fact that you did, indeed, return his affections, that it wasn’t all a misunderstanding in his mind.
“Thought at first it broke some kind of friendship code to fall in love with your best friend’s childhood best friend. Then…I got scared you wouldn’t feel the same,” you laughed lightly at his comment, though Bob could see the way you brightened the second he’d said the word ‘love’ in his explanation. “How long…how long have you felt this way?”
“The schoolgirl crush started when I dropped that table on you, even though I thought you were plenty cute just based on the photos Nat had showed me before,” to was Bob’s turn to laugh as your hand traveled up to the nape of his neck, tangling gently in the hair now carded through your fingers. Somewhere behind them, he swears he could hear Fanboy cheer at the motion. “Somewhere in the midst of a bunch of mini lunch dates and dancing with you for the first time is when it changed.”
“I’ve got you beat there,” Bob countered with a laugh, looking down sheepishly. “After I picked you up from work that one time, when the rest of the guys started calling you Siren. It changed for me after that night.”
There was a slight tug on the hair threaded through your fingers, and Bob resisted everything in him not to let out a groan. His eyes flicked back up to you immediately, almost pleading with you not to do that again before he dragged you out of the reception, and he could see the amusement dancing in your eyes at the reaction you received.
“It's not a competition. We know now,” you slid the hand that rested in his own back up his arm, instead cupping his jaw in your hand as a shiver ran through his body. “Though, I thought I was being quite obvious with literally cuddling you in bed.”
Bob’s now freehand found your hip, eliminating any space between you both as if it were even possible. Given their surroundings, he wouldn’t be surprised if there were murmurs about how what was happening was far from appropriate for the setting they were in.
“It should’ve been. We can blame my insecurities for that one,”
He watched you in silence, still swaying to the beat of the song. Your eyes flickered, for the briefest of moments, down to his lips as Bob’s grip tightened from the sight.
Watching in slow motion as you turn my way and say…take my breath away. My love, take my breath away.
His eyes fluttered half shut, throwing caution to the wind now that he knew he had you, and leaned in. His lips were met with your finger pressed against them, though, and when he’d opened his eyes, your pupils may have been blown wider and your voice may have gained a slight rasp it didn’t have before, but there was clear amusement dancing across your features.
“Trying to kiss me at the wedding of our best friends? How scandalous, you know it’s their night to be the center of attention,” Bob groaned, even as his cheeks flushed, forehead falling to your shoulder. He felt your body shake with laughter before your lips ghosted over his ear. “We’ve waited this long, Lieutenant, what’s a little longer?”
Longer was torture, Bob had decided, but it was a torture spent with you still wrapped around his side. You’d danced the night away into the early hours of the morning with all of your friends, until it was finally time to end what was surely the best night of Natasha and Bradley’s lives.
The newly married couple had bid everyone goodbye before they were off to their own private villa for the night. The wedding party and family made the trek down the road together toward the Lafayette, Hangman and Coyote holding up a very drunk Payback who was belting Celine Dion down the sidewalk.
You’d thrown your head back laughing, hand intertwined with Bob’s as you brought up the rear of the pack.
The squad all said their goodbyes to Maverick and Penny, who’d essentially stood in as Rooster’s family, and to Natasha’s own family, before they’d made their way to the floor blocked off specifically for them. Everyone had thrown out goodnight, disappearing into the private rooms to sleep off their hangovers into the early hours of the morning.
Bob was the last the the Top Gun pilots to still be standing at his door. He’d fished out his own door key, before pausing before inserting it into the lock, glancing down the other end of the hallway.
There you stood, shoes in hand as you leaned against the doorway of your open hotel room. Your eyes never left his, and Bob’s room key found it’s way back into the pocket of his dress whites as he was across the entire hotel room floor in seconds.
Your eyes never seemed to leave one another as you both drifted into the room, Bob’s hand splayed across the edge of the room door, shutting it softly behind you both. The second it was closed, the room was only bathed in the soft, nighttime light of Dan Diego that poured through the curtains and the warm, yellowed glow of the single lamp lighting up the corner of the room.
Bob’s hands found your waist as yours found his neck, and he fell into you as if you were two atoms destined to collide with one another from the moment you met.
Your lips were soft against his, your lipstick already having been smudged off throughout the night from the many drinks passed between friends, but he could taste the cherry and vanilla Chapstick buried underneath. That simple taste elicited a groan from deep inside of him as his desire to simply feel you, to hold you, overtook Bob.
He backed you into the closest wall, right beside the door of the room, and your body immediately arched into him. His hand slid it’s way from your waist down to your thigh, digging into it as he hoisted it up around his own waist, the slit up the dress giving way to allow you to cling to him in earnest.
His hair was a mess as your hands moved into it, your lips never parting. He simply tilted his head, swallowing the moan you let out the second he gripped onto your waist tighter and tugged you impossible closer.
“Pretty sure Fanboy is right next door,” Bob had managed to mumble into your lips, unable to fully pull away from you. You nipped at his lower lip, this time a deep moan leaving him which had you giggling back into the kiss.
“I’ve waited long enough to kiss you, Bob Floyd. I don’t really give a damn if we keep him awake,”
Bob pulled back slightly in the dim lighting, hand leaving your thigh to instead cup your cheek, to simply observe and memorize everything about you. He loved you, he loved you more than he ever thought it was possible to love someone, and he never wanted to forget the look in your eyes right now as you looked at him through lust riddled eyes.
Your hand found his, removing it from your cheek and instead to your back. His breath caught for a second as it touched the zipper at the top, and one single look in your eyes had him tugging it down as slowly and sensually as possible.
Bob could feel your breath catch the second his lips found your neck, leaving a trail across your skin and down to your collarbone as the zipper finally came undone, the pool of navy colored fabric dropping into a heap on the floor.
You’d barely given him a second to truly admire the masterpiece he thought was you as a whole before you’d tugged him back into a kiss, your hands working overtime to gently undo the buttons holding his Navy dress whites together.
His hat was long gone on the floor, and soon every article of his dress whites joined it. He couldn’t help but smile as you laughed, watching him quickly lean down to grab the formal clothing of his and yours, folding it neatly into a pile in the corner. When he’d looked back up, you were standing just inches away, falling back into his arms without another word. His own breath caught, shiver running down his skin at the feeling of your soft, supple skin simply on his igniting a fire in him he’d never felt before.
Your hands came up, adjusting his glasses to sit on the bridge of his nose as they were meant to, and Bob wasted no time in pulling you back into a bruising kiss that had you falling back onto the lush, fancy bedspread behind you both.
As you’d crawled your way back up the bed, head hitting the pillows waiting by the ornate headboard, Bob simply hovered over you, taking you all in fully for the first time, memorizing every square inch of you that existed. He wanted it all committed to memory.
His eyes trailed back to yours finally, to the shining affection and adoration in them, and the words finally tumbled out of his mouth.
“I love you,”
Your hands cupped his jawline, bringing him back down to you to place a gentle, loving kiss on his lips that he sighed right into, leaning into the feel of you that he was already addicted to.
“I love you too,”
The pair of you stayed there for a moment, wrapped up in the sweetest and most loving of kisses that rivaled the passionate moment the moment you’d stepped into the room. Until Bob began to laugh lightly against your lips, the actions bringing a smile to your own face.
“What’s so funny, Lieutenant?”
He shook his head, backing up for just a moment to fully look down at you.
“It’s just uh…you know what they say about the Best Man and the Maid of Honor, don't you?”
Your laughter rang through the room immediately, and he knew Natasha must have said something to you along the same lines of what Bradley had whispered to him in the middle of the Hard Deck. Your hands ran down his shoulder, taking hold of his biceps with a small squeeze.
“Something about how they’re always destined to fall in love. God, how cliché of us,”
Every moment with you flooded Bob’s head in that moment as he looked down at you. From the moment you’d walked into the Hard Deck, to the moment he danced with you, to that fated trip where it all changed, and every moment in between. To now, as you laid almost bare before him, gazing up at him with love written across every inch of your features, as if you’d do just about anything he could’ve asked of you in that moment. And you would, just as he’d do the same for you.
So, his thumb ran across your lips for a moment, before he’d taken the back of your neck in his hand and tugged you upwards into another passionate kiss, pouring every ounce of love his body had into it.
“Yeah…but I wouldn’t have it any other way,”

Heart Glasses ~ Robert "Bob" Floyd
synopsis: You meet your husband's new squadron one by one, all without them knowing who you truly were
tw: fem!reader, reader wears glasses, reader's mom's maiden name is Hearts, Bob's from Montana, suggestive, barely edited.
fic, ficlet, drabble, request
This was purely because I've been getting more strangers complimenting my heart shaped glasses
➽──────────────❥
Robert Floyd was a private person, everyone who meets him can attest to it. But, the one thing he could never keep quiet about, was his wife. The very same wife who the Dagger Squad had never met and had never seen a photo of.
"Are we even sure baby on board even has a wife?" Jake, stupidly, asked. The others ignored him, Bob wasn't one to lie and they've all seen the ring and heard the one sided phone calls.
✧°˖ . ݁˖︵‿❀‿︵˖ . ݁˖°✧
It was Natasha that met you first, you were in the same store as her and she had spotted your glasses from farther away.
"Hi, I just wanted to tell you that I love your glasses," Natasha said as she walked up, you smiled over at her.
"Oh, thank you! My husband got them for me because my mom's maiden name is Hearts," you told her. You noticed her uniform before speaking next, "Are you Navy?"
"I am," she told you, then recited her callsign. You smiled at her, told her that was a cooler call sign, and then you two said your goodbyes before leaving. As you walked away, you realized that had to be the Phoenix your husband was back seating for.
✧°˖ . ݁˖︵‿❀‿︵˖ . ݁˖°✧
You met Bradley next, your dad was also an enjoyer of Hawaiian shirts and his birthday was coming up. You saw a man walking around the same store you were in holding the perfect one for your father.
"Hi, I'm sorry to bother you, but where did you find that shirt?" You questioned the taller stranger.
"Oh, back there," Bradley pointed behind him snd your eyes caught sight of the shirt.
"Thank you!" You told him, racing off with a muted goodbye.
✧°˖ . ݁˖︵‿❀‿︵˖ . ݁˖°✧
Bradley and Natasha figured out their stranger interactions had been the same person at the Hard Deck a few days later.
"I ran into the woman who asked where I found this shirt at the mall the other day," Bradley told the group. "She had these heart glasses and it was like her whole face lit up when I told her," Bradley said, he was lamenting the fact that he never asked if she was single.
"Wait," Natasha cut in. "Did she have a black purse with a butterfly attachment and y/h/c hair?" Natasha questioned. y/h/c = your hair color
"Yeah, how did you know?" Bradley questioned, his face scrunched in confusion.
"That's the woman I complimented on her glasses! She's married, her husband got her glasses for her," Natasha told Bradley, her face twisting into disgust at his earlier words of wanting to take her out.
"Damn, that's one lucky man then," Bradley mused, everyone missing the small grin growing on Bob's face. He had figured you were the one they were talking about.
✧°˖ . ݁˖︵‿❀‿︵˖ . ݁˖°✧
Mickey was the next to meet you, he had recognized your description from the others and wanted to double check you were you. You were just walking to your car from work.
"Hi, this may sound weird but did you ask a taller man with a mustache about a Hawaiian shirt and get complimented on your glasses by a woman whose call sign is Phoenix?" Mickey rushed out before you could run away from the odd question.
"Oh, yeah, why?" You had subtly taken a step back from him.
"I'm in their squadron! They will never believe that I met you," Mickey pumped his fist in the air and you relaxed.
"Oh, well, hello," you laughed gently, your smile easy. "What do they call you?"
"Fanboy, but my name's Mickey, ma'am," he offered his hand and you shook it.
"Nice to meet you Mickey," you offered your name before walking away, you got in the car and let yourself laugh even harder. These were definitely the people from your husband's squadron.

Jake was next, he hit on you before you even looked at him.
"What's a darling lady like you doing alone?" Jake slid into your space, you were grocery shopping for breakfast while Bob slept in a bit.
"Mu husband's asleep," you told him, turning to face him.
"Wait, no way, you're the infamous y/n?" He perked up and you realized what was happening.
"Are you another from the group of people from the same squadron that I keep running into?" You questioned, a humorous smile growing on your face.
"I am, the name's Hangman," he offered his hand and you shook it.
"Well, I have no idea how many more of you there are," you lied. "But tell the others I'm excited to run into them as well," you bit him farewell while leaving, missing Jake pulling his phone out to text the Dagger Squad group.
Bagman: You'll never guess who I ran into Phoenix: Heart glasses y/n? Bagman: At the grocery store Rooster: You hit on her, didn't you? Fanboy: He most definitely did Phoenix: Did she bring up her husband? Bagman: She did Payback: I was supposed to meet her next! Coyote: I call next time

You met Ruben next, much to Javy's dismay. You were at the gym and Ruben couldn't find his earbud case.
"Hi, sorry," Ruben automatically apologized when you slightly jumped. "I didn't mean to scare you, it's just that I was using this machine earlier and I can't find my earbud case. Have you seen one around here by chance?"
"Oh, is it blue?" You questioned, your glasses slowly falling down your face. It brought them to Ruben's attention and you saw him get excited.
"Yeah, it is, you wouldn't happen to be y/n, would you?"
"I am, are you apart of that Navy squadron?" You grabbed the blue earbud case you had seen under the machine earlier and handed it to him.
"That I am," he affirmed and you gave him a small smile. "Thanks for this," he lifted the case up just enough for you to see it.
"You're welcome,' you paused, waiting for his name.
"Payback or Ruben, ma'am," he told you and you nodded once. You two went your separate ways and as you left for the locker room, you texted your husband.
My Girl ❤️: I ran into another one of your friends My Cowboy 🤠 ❤️: Who was it? My Girl ❤️: Payback, he was nice. Called me ma'am and only approached me because he lost his earbud case My Cowboy 🤠 ❤️: You've got one left to meet My Girl ❤️: I know, they act like they're all meeting me. I'm meeting them My Girl ❤️: Also I'm very sweaty and it will be your problem when I get home. I'm going to be all over you My Cowboy 🤠 ❤️: I can't wait
✧°˖ . ݁˖︵‿❀‿︵˖ . ݁˖°✧
The last to meet you was Javy, he saw you as you walked into the hangar. You were there to pick up Bob since you had to borrow his truck while your car was in the shop, and Javy recognized your description right away.
"Holy shit, you're y/n! I'm Coyote or Javy!" He practically shouted, causing many to look over at you. You were suddenly surrounded by the entire squadron, questions flying at you faster than you could process.
Your savior came in the form of your husband, as always. His hand wrapped around your wrist and gently pulled you to him, his hand slipping right to it's home on your waist. "Are you ok?" Bob lowly asked in your ear, you nodded with a bright smile on your face.
"Wait," Jake called out but his shock made him pause. "Your husband's baby on board?"
"Yeah, my husband's Bob," you told him, your eyes sharpening at the name Jake called him.
"How long have you known who we were?" Natasha asked.
"Since you, well, I didn't know who Bradley was until Bobby came home and told me. I'm sorry for never asking your name to properly thank you," you apologized to the man but he waved you off.
"I think that's ok, I did accidentally tell your husband how I was upset at myself for never asking you out," Bradley told you and you laughed at the feeling of Bob tightening his hold on you.
"He told me about that, while I appreciate two of you thinking I'm attractive, I am very happy in my marriage," you told them, it was enough to snap Jake out of his shock.
"How the hell did Bob bag you?" Jake exclaimed and you looked over at him again.
"He's got a huge," Bob cut you off with a tug away from the others.
"Ok, that's enough," your husband told you with ear tipped ears. You gave him a sweet smile as you heard the laughter from his squad. Bob led you away from them and out of the building and to the car. "You're going to pay for that," Bob told you as he started his truck, his hand landing on your thigh.
"I can't wait," you told him, your smile widening just a little bit more.

It wasn’t on purpose. Nights when you and Jake ended up at the same bar were never planned, mostly because your friends from work always wanted to go somewhere downtown, and Jake’s friends from work always wanted to go to the Hard Deck so there was never a chance for the two groups to intersect.
Tonight, however, your friends had enough of hearing about all your nights at the Hard Deck with your fighter pilot husband who drops by work every once and a while with lunch or a gorgeous bouquet of flowers. They decided to venture out to the Hard Deck tonight for your monthly get-together and you weren’t going to miss an opportunity to ogle at your husband from across the bar while he played darts and pool with his Dagger Squad friends who just so happened to be in town visiting.
And that’s exactly where you found yourself on this lovely Friday night. Your friend walked over to your standing table with another drink for you and you thanked her with a smile. She immediately started diving into some workplace gossip, keeping her voice quiet since so many of your colleagues had managed to make it out tonight. You half-listened to her go on how bad the break room refrigerator smelled the other day but your real focus was on Jake who was playing pool with Phoenix, Fanboy, and Bob. He had Bob on his team and you were surprised to see him actually give the man a chance to play without correcting or coaching him.
You knew all about the Dagger Squad, when Jake was first sent out here you followed him, even knowing this wouldn’t be a permanent duty station, and he talked about everyone he was competing against non stop. From the moment he came home after training you were getting a full rundown of the days happening (you were sworn to secrecy of the top secret events, of course). You learned quickly who was who, even if you never got the opportunity to meet them.
After the mission, you were pulling out boxes and getting ready to move what little belongings you brought over to the island when Jake came home and surprised you to your core. He accepted a teaching position here on the North Island and you were staying for the foreseeable future.
You were shocked but over the moon. Jake would be in one spot for at least a couple years and wouldn’t be off on deployments and missions so often. You could start a family and he could actually be there for all of it.
“Hello? Anybody home?” A hand waving in front of your face brought you out of memories and a trance you hadn’t realized you were in. You laughed and smiled at your friend, but not before catching the eye of Phoenix, who totally caught you staring at Jake.
“Sorry, sorry, got a little lost there.” You waved her hand out of your face and took another sip from your drink.
“I’ll say,” she laughed, “I mean, I get it.” Her eyebrows wagged and you laughed heartily, throwing your head back. She was always complimenting your choice of husband and you had to agree with her, he was fine as hell.
“Fuck, I think one of his friends just caught me staring,” you said once the laughter died down.
“Remind me again why he doesn’t tell them about you?”
“It started off as a joke,” you start, “he wanted to see how long it would take one of them to notice, and now it’s just an ongoing bet we have.”
“A bet I am about to win, by the way.” Jake suddenly appears behind you and you’re happy to see him until his words sink in.
“You’re not allowed to interfere!” You point at him and he just laughs.
“No interference, I promise.” He leans on the table you two are standing at and you almost forget about the bet for a second because his green eyes still captivate you even after all this time.
“Well, what are you doing over here then?”
“See now, that’s where it gets interesting because someone caught you looking at me,” he tips his beer over in the direction of his friends, who scatter like chickens when you turn your head to look at them, “and they bet me $20 that I couldn’t walk over here and get your phone number.”
“Hmmm, seems like fair play to me.” Your friend interjects, looking contemplatively between you and your cheating husband.
A noise comes out of your mouth, somewhere between disbelief and betrayal. You only had one month left before the bet was yours and you could claim your prize and now this happens, the perfect opportunity falls right into Jake’s lap.
“Did none of them notice the giant ring on my finger?” You hold up your wedding rings, which glint even in the dim bar lighting and Jake takes your fingers in his hand, bending them towards himself before placing a kiss on your knuckles. You swoon. It’s impossible not to. “Don’t try to distract me, you’re in trouble.”
“Come on darlin’,” His hand fell away from yours but moved slyly around your hip, where it curled around the belt loops of your shorts, and just then, while his face was inching towards yours, your wedding song came on.
“When did this song get added to the jukebox?”
“I may have put in a special request.” His smile did you in. You met him halfway and when your lips met that familiar kaleidoscope of butterflies took flight. Jake pulled away just to smile at you some more before pressing a few quick kisses to your lips. When he backed away enough, you took the chance to look over his shoulder and see what his friends thought.
The entire group was standing around, completely gobsmacked at what just occurred and you could only imagine what was running through their minds.
“After you, Mrs. Seresin,” Jake whispered in your ear. You gave him the best glare you could but he just laughed and grabbed your hand to walk you over to the group of people you already felt like you knew.
Jake chuckled as you got within ear shot. “Everyone, I’d like you to meet someone,” he pulled you under his arm and you automatically slid your own across his back, “this is my wife.” He said it with genuine pride, a stark contrast to his usual cocky tone everyone was used to.
“Wife?” Rooster repeated, dumbfounded.
“Pick your jaw up off the floor, Bradshaw.”
You ignored Jake and introduced yourself to everyone with a quick wave. “It’s nice to finally meet you all.”
There was a beat of silence while you watched everyone process what was happening, but Phoenix broke it with a laugh. “You’ve been holding out on us, Bagman!”
“Yeah, what the hell, man!” Rooster seemed downright offended that Jake would keep such a secret from them and you couldn’t help but laugh.
“It’s not all Jake’s fault,” You come to his defense, “we had a bet going, which I just lost.”
“What bet did you two have?” Bob asked, coming forward to introduce himself to you properly.
You shook his outstretched hand, smiling. “We wanted to see how long it would take for someone to figure out he was married.”
“You… you don’t wear a wedding ring?” Rooster seemed to be having the hardest time with this revelation and it was cracking you up.
Jake pulled his dog tags out from under his shirt, proudly turning them around to display his gold wedding band that perfectly matched the one around your finger. They both belonged to his grandparents and he was so proud to give you his grandmother's band on your wedding day.
Phoenix studied the two of you for a moment, watched the way you started to sway to a song and Jake immediately joined in, watched how his attention always drifted back to you, and how his entire cocky dimenor melted away as soon as you were near.
“So, what’s the story? How did you manage to bag Hangman?” Natasha asked, leaning her hands on the pool cue in front of her.
Jake pretended to be offended. “I’m not that wild.”
You roll your eyes affectionately before diving into the story of how you and Jake met. It was nothing spectacular or anything you would want to make a movie about, but it was a whirlwind romance that ended in the two of you married in the Seresin family’s backyard three summers ago.
When you finished your story, all smiles for your husband, Rooster raised his beer in a toast. “Welcome to the family, Mrs. Seresin.”
Jake couldn’t help but smile. It felt good to let the team in on his best-kept secret, even if he was gonna pay for her losing the bet later on tonight.

hi i was wondering if you would do headcannons of the yan!fanboy if reader actually noticed him coming to all their shows and events
OBSESSED (SUPERFAN! YANDERE BOY X POPSTAR! READER)
WARNINGS: stalking, average yandere tendencies, nsfw, perverted yandere, gender neutral reader, mentions of naked reader but no genitalia addressed, dom reader, reader is compliant with the yandere and teases him a ton, lowercase intended. btw i do not condone yanderes irl.
A/N: i hope y'all know i read every single one of your asks, comments, and reblogs. i appreciate them all and they do brighten my day. i'm just saying this so y'all know that the stuff you send to other writers (not just me) matters a lot!! when you interact it gives them inspiration!!! and motivation!! me personally sometimes i see ONE kind reblog and i immediately get my ass up and start writing something just because of that one person. don't get me wrong, i still love all my lurkers that silently like a ton of my stuff, y'all are important too. anyways i'll shut up now onto the hcs. (btw this ended up being a fic instead of hcs i apologize. i went crazy over this i'm sorry anon LMAO)

"hey, you look pretty familiar. have you been to a few shows before?" you asked kindly, facing the short man in the front row of the audience.
bayani froze as the stadium's screens pointed to him. he opened his mouth in an attempt to say something, but nothing came out. his face went red and his throat went dry. did you actually notice him, or was he just dreaming?
after a few seconds of waiting for an answer, you shrugged. "sorry, maybe i mistook you for someone else. anyways..."
the yandere boy still didn't move, with his mouth agape, as you continued on with your show. the people around bayani didn't seem to care, assuming that he was just a starstruck fan. but it was more than that. much more than that.
out of the millions of fans that attend your shows and events, you recognized him among them. you noticed him. and he didn't know how to handle it. what was he supposed to say? what would you even talk about? sure, he's seen all of your interviews and heard your music and dissected your lyrics for hours every single day, but would you ever want to interact with him as much as he wanted to interact with you? he was just a lowlife. he had an average job, average amount of money, he lived in a shitty apartment, and he had no friends or major accomplishments. all of his free time outside of work was spent on you. spent on following your every move and investigating everything you've put your hands on. if you ever spoke to him, you'd probably think he was some sort of pathetic stalker.
that thought drove him mad. he couldn't even focus on the rest of your concert. he didn't hear the blaring music and screams from the crowd. he wasn't paying attention to your performance, either.
he could only stand there and imagine the punishments you'd inflict on him if you found out about his obsession. would you call your security to take him away? he'd hope not. if he's going to be kicked and pushed around, perhaps even handcuffed, he'd rather you do the job rather than some random guard. but maybe he'd accept the punishment, only because you were the one who deemed it necessary. he takes your word like gospel, so he'll take whatever punishment you want, even though he would prefer your hands on him while you do it.
his imagination ran wild as your concert finished and you walked off the stage with your dancers. the crowd of fans in the stadium dispersed around him, moving along with their day. but bayani couldn't just move on with his day knowing that you know he exists now. how is he supposed to simply move on from that? he spent a long time making sure you never noticed him. even though he attended every single one of your concerts and events, he did not want to be noticed. he knew he wouldn't be able to handle it. but it finally happened. he finally got a taste of what it's like to be seen by the love of his life. he couldn't just leave it at that. he had to do something about it.
being under your gaze, even if it was only a few seconds, made him feel like he went to heaven. it made all of the hundreds of dollars he spent on you worth it. all of the hours he spent listening to your music and watching videos of you was worth it. it was like he awoke from a slumber. a long, miserable slumber. he had to find a way to thank you. say something to you. he messed up when he simply froze after you saw him. who knows when he'll get another chance like that?
it took a few hours for the stadium to be empty, and the security started to shoo bayani away. but when he went outside, the parking lot was still full. your concert ended hours ago, but there was still loads of cars trying to leave. it would be frustrating, but bayani had to find a way out quickly.
he climbed on the back of a nearby truck and rested his legs there, waiting patiently for the vehicle to move out of the traffic. even though he knew the truck wouldn't go anywhere near your mansion, he knew how to get to your house on foot. he only needed to rest on the truck until the traffic was gone.
after a few hours on the road, he jumped out of the vehicle, and started to walk to your mansion on foot. he didn't need to look up the location online, because he already knew where it was. he visited your home many times in the past, he just never attempted to go inside before.
his veins were on fire and he started to sweat the closer he got. he was starting to have second thoughts about his idea. but there was no time to go back, because he already showed up to your house before he could change his plans.
to get inside, he had to climb up a tree, jump off of it, and land in your backyard. he used that trick often in the past, since it was not his first time going to your house. he often snuck on your property to watch or take pictures of you while you slept.
he tried opening your bedroom window, but it was locked. he had to try a different one.
he went over to a window beside your bedroom, and thankfully, it was unlocked. but the moment he opened the window, he heard the sound of water running and your familiar voice humming a song. were you in the shower?
bayani climbed inside as quietly as possible, and closed the window behind him. his suspicions were correct. he was in your bathroom, and you were taking a shower. your curtains covered up your figure, so he couldn't see you.
bayani looked to the side of the room and saw a pile of your dirty clothes on the floor. he ran up to it and immediately took a large whiff at the pile. it smelled divine to him. he couldn't get enough of it. he quickly spotted your used underwear in the pile and snatched it without thinking, then he stuffed it in his pocket. you wouldn't notice, right?
before he could take the rest of your clothes, the water suddenly stopped. bayani ran to hide, in a spot where you couldn't see him but he could see you. you opened the shower curtains and stepped out with a towel in your hands. you were completely naked, and still drenched in water. bayani felt like he died and went to heaven again that day. he couldn't believe what he was seeing. you were completely naked, right in front of his eyes. ignoring the puddle in his pants, he nervously fumbled around his pockets, trying to find his phone. there was no way he could pass up an opportunity like this. without hesitation, he snapped a photo of you.
but he didn't notice that the flash was on.
he froze, and you looked towards him. neither of you said a word, and bayani saw his future flash before his eyes. you would probably scream for security and he would get taken away to prison, never to see your face again. his life would be over.
"you're the guy i've been seeing everywhere, huh?" you whispered.
"...are you going to, uh... send me away?" bayani gulped.
you thought about it for a moment. this guy clearly cared a lot about you, because you saw him literally everywhere you went. no matter what country you visited, he was always there. even if you didn't tell a single soul where you were going, he was somehow always there. you even saw him on your property a few times, so you knew how crazy he was. but you still let him do it. and you never reported him, either. you knew exactly what he wanted. you could always hear him moaning outside your window, knowing he would have one hand down his pants and a camera on the other.
he was cute, so why not have some fun with him?
"come here." you commanded. he followed your order without thinking, immediately falling down to his knees in front of you.
you grabbed his chin, and made him look up at you. he felt hot tears well up in his eyes as you stared him down. he didn't say a word, but you knew exactly what he was thinking.
you pressed your knee against the wet stain on his pants, and he let out a pathetic whimper. he was getting off on it.
he didn't know what to do. his dreams were finally coming true. he got noticed by you, got into your house, saw you naked, and you finally touched him. he was overwhelmed, and started crying. he didn't mean to look so weak in front of you for a first impression, but he couldn't help it. besides, he'd make a fool out of himself any day for you.
"you're so pathetic.. you've been stalking me for so long, and now you break into my house to see me naked. i could call the police and have you arrested..." you whispered, as you started putting more pressure on his crotch, moving your knee up and down on it, and inching your face closer to his.
he sobbed, “please, don't! i promise, it'll never happen again. i'll stop, i'll do whatever you want, i'll-"
you cut him off by connecting your lips to his, setting his heart on fire. you pulled away after a few seconds, leaving him speechless. there's no way you just kissed him. he had to be dreaming.
and then you moved your knee away from his crotch right before he could cum, making him let out a whimper and crumble to the ground.
"thanks for letting me have some fun with you. we can do this again soon.. if you be a good boy and return my underwear." you winked, walking away and leaving bayani a hard, pathetic, leaking mess on your bathroom floor.

Hihi, here is some food for thought, albeit rather niche!
Ex-Professional Footballer Young Manager who agrees to play as a substitute player in a match in exchange for a major business sponsor for Blue Lock, and suddenly was absent from the Blue Lock Facility for a week because of it. The Blue lock boys (who didn't know about her football background bc she didn't think it was anything impressive compared to their achievements in Blue lock) panicking thinking Ego locked her off, only to end up learning the truth and watching (fanboying over) her match.
STRIKER OF THE HEART AND GAME
Notes: Yall never fail to give me the most, diabetic and tooth-decaying ideas to write. Theyre all so sweet, and I love reading ALL your asks.
"Good luck, Y/n-chan! You can do it!" Anri cheered beside you, watching you put on your cleats and gloves inside the sports bag as you sat on the tiles ground of Ego's office.
Speaking of the man, he had his back on you, eyes focused on the CCTV cameras around the facility as he watched the players practice in their own respective stratums and places. He was the epitome of calm, cool, and collected, opposite of the pounding of your heart just thinking about playing the sport once again.
Well, its not like Ego is about to be subbed in a team as its center midfielder where he has no prior knowledge or experience playing with, and being expected to dominate nonetheless.
"Thank you, Anri-san! Um...I'll try my best."
"Why are you nervous, Y/n-chan?"
A squeak was heard from Ego's swivel chair, as the man turned around to face you, his eyes disapproving and empty as it always looked. He stood up before folding his upper half forward to meet your eyes.
"You are in Blue Lock. A team already passed the average-at-best standard and world of Japan. Even if you are a manager here, you know the key to awaken your true capability, you know your own ego and strengths. Use them, use them wisely. I chose you as the manager of this place for a reason."
You looked at the man, your main mentor ever since you have been in this place with a smile. One large enough to brighten up your whole face. You know that even if his words came out somewhat harsh, this is his way of caring. Having seen it time and time again with how he interacted with the Blue Lockers, it was his way of comforting and at the same time looking out for your pre-game morale.
"Of course, Ego-san! I'll win this game!"
And with that, you headed out of the facility, inside one of the buses provided by the higher-ups and started the journey to where the match will be held.
"Y/n-chan! Let's eat lunch togeth- Eh? Y/n-chan?"
Shidou burst through your office door, ready to jump and hug you, and hopefully, have you join him in the cafeteria to eat lunch. But to his surprise, you were not there.
You would always be there when it was lunchtime, writing down some things or eating away in the confines of the room. But today, you were nowhere to be seen.
Shrugging, the striker just hopped his way to the cafeteria, thinking that you may be there. But to his chagrin, you also were not there. Shidou started to get a bit upset and sad, after all, he has not seen you for hours! He needs his daily dose of Y/n.
"Hey, has any of you guys seen Y/n? I haven't seen her since breakfast. She told me she'd help me schedule my workouts." The blonde heard Karasu talking with the other PXG members in the cafeteria.
But much to their worries, everyone seemed to be experiencing the same thing. No one has seen you since you entered the cafeteria to eat breakfast, and that was very unlike you. You would usually be walking around the facility, helping with the players and staff or even accomplishing your never ending responsibilities and tasks.
"Hmm, maybe she is just busy in her office? Or with Ego-san? We know how her work piles up aomost every second. I feel bad for her." Nanase answered Karasu's inquiry. His theory was not that farfetched and could possibly be true if Shidou did not just went there a few minutes ago.
"She isn't in her office, headband. I tried to look for her everywhere, but she isnt here."
"Not even in a different stratum?" Karasu added.
"Dunno. Didn't check."
"Then don't assume, idiots. She's probably in the other stratums-" But Karasu was cut off when their door to the cafeteria opened to reveal Reo who looked a bit panicked.
"Has any of you guys seen Y/n-chan around in your stratum?"
"Er, no. Why?"
"Then she's really missing. I've been running around the other stratums to ask if they've seen her anywhere but she is nowhere! You guys are the last place I asked and...well you get the idea."
Now that made all of them panic, where were you?!
Looking around at each other, they nodded as if they thought the same thing at the same time. There was definitely only one person who knows where you are.
Welp, time to go to Ego's office.
"What?" The man said, annoyed and a bit angry at the accusatory questions. Well, it was not accusatory but the thought of doing what the players were saying made him feel like they think he was dumb.
"Was she kicked out and we'll get a new manager?!" Reo said, panicking.
"What?! No, Y/n-chan is the best. You can't do that!" Charles said, frowning heavily. His teeth bared as if he was ready to bite Ego if he did confirm he kicked you out.
"Oi, four eyes if you kicked her out, I will kick you literally." Shidou threatened.
"Did she leave us here?" Rin said. Even if his voice sounded neutral and cold, there was a slight crack that indicated he was absolutely heartbroken if that was the case.
"No, you idiots. She didn't leave, nor did I kick her out. I am not dumb and she pampers you all too much for her to just leave." Ego rolled his eyes at the overdramatic and outlandish thoughts they had. Instead, he turned his swivel chair to face the monitors that were mounted on the wall.
"She is out for the week. She has to play in some matches. Unfortunately, no is not an option since it was tue JFU's decision. Now leave and go back to training, or else someone will indeed be kicked out of this place, and it's not her. Now go."
This definitely made the PXG team's (and Reo's) ears perk up in interest. You? Playing in a match? In a football match?! Holy cow, why did they not know? Or better yet, why did you not tell them?
That afternoon, most of the PXG members huddled together as they searched your game in the tablet provided in Blue Lock. And to no one's surprise, it was currently live, and the game is just about to start.
Meanwhile, in the Manshine stratum, Reo dragged both Nagi and Chigiri in their rooms and prepared the tablet.
"What are we even watching, Reo? I wanna play." Nagi mumbled on the pillow, laying down on the purple-haired male's bed stomach down, Chigiri who sat down on his bed as well nodded.
"Yeah, I mean, I don't mind. But it's not that important, is it." Reo looked offended when Chigiri even tried to insinuate that the match was not important.
"What do you mean not important?! Y/n-chan is going to play as their midfielder! Its the most important thing ever! We're already lacking because we're not there at all to support her! So we have to support her from here."
Now that got Chigiri to straighten up, and Nagi awake, both their eyes wide. They thought it would just be a normal exhibition match. But Reo did not mention you would be playing! Then maybe they would have immediately paid attention.
"You mean Y/n-chan is playing?!" Chigiri said in shock.
"Y/n-chan...I want to watch...!" Nagi said, for the first time paying attention to something, his once half-lidded eyes wide awake and focused on the screen of the tablet.
"Yeah! I didn't tell you?" Reo asked to which he just got a pillow thrown on his face, courtesy of Chigiri.
"No, you dumbass! Just start playing the live, geez."
Needless to say, the two teams even forgot to eat their dinner just to see the end of your match was an understatement. The members were too focused on their screens.
Charles, Rin, Shidou, Chigiri, Reo, and even sometimes Nagi would be muttering curses and mean words towards your teammates who would fail to receive the ball that you so graciously give them from the midfield. There were even times when you would give it to them in a place optimal for a goal, with a pass that even an amateur can score a goal with but they would still miss.
"That number 9 is a fucking idiot." Rin rolled his eyes.
"Number 9? You mean number 21! She is the worst striker I have ever seen! Hmph! If I was (nickname) I would never pass to her!" Charles said throwing his fists up in the air.
"Why is she even the striker? Y/n-chan should have been the striker, and instead, she's stuck at the midfield." Karasu commented.
"Poor Y/n-chan. The enemy team is already ahead of 2 points, and they still have none." Tokimitsu said the moment he saw your face when the camera panned at you. You looked stressed and a bit annoyed at your incompetent teammates.
"If I was her, I would have probably punched that number 21 girl." Shidou said with the angriest face anyone has seen him. After all, they were strikers, and they know a good pass when they see one. Yours were absolutely perfect every time, and if they received a pass like that, they would never waste it away by being locked by the goalkeeper orget stolen by the other team.
The Manshine players were not fairing well either. Reo was clenching the poor blanket too harsh in anger at their strikers and even the defenders and midfielders for leaving you alone at times and not syncing with your smart plans.
"Absolutely horrendous!! Why didn't they go there?! Even an idiot would know that Y/n-chan lured the other team's players there for a reason!" Reo complained.
"They're absolutely brainless at the game." Chigiri rolled his eyes, although he did feel a little amused that someone like Reo, who is usually a gentleman to girls, throwing curse words at the players.
"Hmm...I would be so happy if Y/n-chan gave me a perfect pass like that. She would even clear up some of the defenders just so number 21 or nymber 10 can score a goal." Nagi commented, a frown on his face, not liking that your team was losing.
But of course, when you make a mistake, its forgivable. Like the one time you received the ball a bit sloppily, mainly because you were growing tired.
"Well duh, of course she would miss. She's tired of carrying the whole team on her shoulders." Reo said.
In the dying minutes of the game, with only less than 10 minutes left, with the score being 2-0 in favour of the opposing team, you seemed to have had enough. You became a ballhog, dribbling like a pro against the defenders and midfielders, using your teammates as shields just for you to score a goal.
And let's just say that if Ego was not watching the match as well, he would have scolded the two teams for screaming like wild animals when you scored.
"Now that's a goal you fucking idiots!" Shidou laughed and jumped like a monkey along with Charles.
"She's the only decent player, which sucks." Rin rolled his eyes.
Some of the members of your team ran to congratulate with you, but instead of celebrating, you turned to the striker who looked a bit annoyed that you did not pass to her and scored yourself.
"If you can't do your work as a striker. Then I will do it and score. Do me a favour and get out of my way, that's the least you can do to help this team win."
Everyone was silent after you said it with a straight and emotionless face, just watching you walk away to your place in the court. To say that the striker was pissed was an understatement. She was the striker of this team for more than three years now! She was also older than you, meaning she deserved respect, and you had the audacity? You were just an intern, a replacement of their midfielder.
The other team members were split into two. Some who are close to the striker immediately sided with her and started to glare at you, while some who really wanted to win were more on your side, but they decided to just stay neutral and continue playing.
Until the end of the game, you were a ballhog, passing scarcely to avoid it being stolen by the enemies.
'Tsk, at least some of the defenders in this team are decent.'
Doing a quick roulette on the defender in front of you and immediately holding the shoulder of the one to your left. You squinted your eyes and shot another goal, this time it had a bit of curve to it that the goalkeeper did not read so it resulted into another miracle goal, or atleast thats what they called it because there was only 2 minutes left in the game.
Everyone in the stadium were on their feet, even the commentators stood up shouting in their mic in amazement.
"What...WHAT A GOAL!! THE INFAMOUS MANAGER OF BLUE LOCK HERSELF, Y/N L/N, SCORED A MIRACLE GOAL! A GOAL THAT EQUALIZES HER TEAM!"
In the end, there came an additional time but unfortunately, no goal came. After all, you were tired beyond belief as stamina had always been your problem and hence why you do not play much anymore.
So, it came to penalties. You managed to score your own penalty, but to say that your other teammates flopped was an understatement. The other team, however, managed to score 2 penalty goals, hailing them the winner of the match.
The boys, who watched in the Blue Lock facility, were more than pissed of course. You lost because of those stupid teammates of yours that dragged you down. The worst part is that they know you can produce better plays if only your teammates can catch up to it.
Ego, who waa watching remained neutral as ever, while Anri was gripping her hair in annoyance.
"It can't be helped. This is why we are striving to change Japanese football, Anri-chan." Ego said.
In the locker room, you remained quiet and neutral as always as you took a shower and changed into your normal clothes. But as you did, the striker of the team came out, her face contorted in annoyance.
"We lost because you were a fucking ballhog. Why couldn't you just pass the ball to me or Hana over here? Heck even to Aiyo-"
"Not really. We lost because none of you scored your penalties. Even if not all of you did, if only some of you did, we could have won. My ballhog move was for the best, after all, it was the one that scored us two points and equalized us. It was even the reason we got to play longer." You said with a straight face, just saying facts. But to the others, especially to the striker, you were bragging about being the best in the team and dissing their skills which pissed her off more.
If it was not for the manager walking in, the situation would have gotten worse. Thankfully, the manager was not any of the players as he congratulated and thanked you for your hat trick. And said, it was very much impressive seeing as the opposing team was one of the strongest in Japan.
"It's nothing, sir. I still had fun playing. Thank you."
With one last bow you left them to themselves.
"Why did you not tell us about this?!" Isagi said, mad and horrified. The other two teams did not tell them that you were playing matches and that you did one yesterday and he did not get to watch it?!
"Yeah! Chigiri, you're so mean!" Bachira said with a pout, while Niko just agreed.
"I'll tell Ubers about this. They have another one tomorrow right?"
"Yeah. At 7:30 pm. We wanted to support Y/n-chan even if we're stuck here. But be aware, her team is so shit it gets annoying and that Y/n is the only carrying that team. So yeah..." Chigiri said to which Isagi just shrugged.
"Oh, it can't be that bad, right?"
Oh, how wrong he was. Wednesday came, and all the teams all camped in a meeting room (inside the Bastard Munchen stratum) and set up the live (they managed to convince Ego, which was surprising but knowing his favouritism towards you, it was not that surprising).
At first, it was just the Blue Lockers, but when Kaiser, along with Ness, entered the meeting room, they were a little curious.
"Leave, Kaiser." Isagi rolled his eyes, to which the German just smirked.
"Oh, but I heared little Y/n will be playing a game. I want to watch how she does, of course."
Now, the meeting room was crowded as hell. Even some of the masters went to watch, for God's sake. The moment the match started, the whole pace was quiet down, and everyone's attention was on the screen of the large tv.
You got the ball early in the game as you dribbled past the midfielders and decided to give the strikers one chance to prove if they'll be worth passing to in this match.
You decided to give a curved pass accurate to where number 21 was, till now you did not really have any care to know what her name was. It was a pass that was easy to score a goal with. You put a good spin to it, and it was optimal for any type of straight shot.
Even the Blue Lockers rolled their eyes at this, not liking that you're going easy on your team, especially after what happened last game.
"If she doesn't score that, I don't have any hope for any of them at all, except Y/n-chan." Chigiri commented, remembering how pissed he was when he watched the previous game.
They all watched the striker, receiving the ball with the side of her right foot and kicked to the net only for it to hit the goalpost, bouncing on it to end outside.
"Are you fucking kidding me?" Isagi let out, everyone started to curse as well as the others.
"I mean, I would make a comment about how they're a Division 3 team. But anyone could have scored that goal..." Yukimiya said, shaking his head. This was a professional team? He thinks not.
"I think I know that striker girl. I have heard of her before... yeah. She was supposedly good, guess fame got to her head and she didn't improve anymore." Niko said, thinking back to some articles he has read about her. If that was the case, it would be rather sad that she wasted her talents and skills to remain in that same level forever instead of bettering herself.
After that fluke of a goal, you ended up just passing the ball to some of the defenders and midfielders who are much more efficient in protecting the ball or even scoring. After all, you were not used to being a ballhog, and the last game was just a desperate measure. But now, you had time to flesh out the game and your strategies instead of going all instinct.
Passing to one of the midfielders whom you knew named Yuko, you let her weave her way through the enemies before using her being stuck in the middle of two of them as a way for her to have no choice but pass it to you, which she did. You received it through the small opening before running through the field, dribbling the ball as fast as you can (you weren't a natural like Bachira or even Lavinho, but you weren't bad at it) before you were stopped by the opponent's defenders, who were lured by the aspect that you were not the best dribbler they have seen and to hopefully steal the ball.
Instead of fighting or dribbling past them, you kicked the ball high. It was high enough to seem like it was a pass, only it was to get past the defenders. It curved downwards as the goalkeeper tried to catch it, to no avail.
You scored your first goal of the night. And by God, was it magical to see. You were like a magical siren, elegantly swimming past the defenders, luring them using your elegant plays and seemingly understandable and naive plays so they can try and intercept you, only for you to turn around and be the one to make use of their belief that you were an easy. Just like the old sailors who thought that the beautiful girl in the middle of the ocean was an innocent woman, lured in by her beauty and hypnotizing voice, only to be dragged down the sea in despair.
You were that. Beautiful yet deadly. This was something none of the players or even masters have seen.
You looked ahead at the goal, not even celebrating as you just wiped the sweat on your forehead. As if you did not just plunge the opposing defenders into your sea, drowning them in despair.
"Damn...I've never seen her play...I kinda wish I did before..." Oliver said, breathless. The rest seemed like it as well, as if they were the players on the field, affected by your siren song.
"Now I get why Ego called her play...hypnotizing once...this is what he meant..." Kunigami added.
"Heh, a play that is so beautiful yet naive looking to lure in those around her, only to turn around and show her hidden monstrous side the moment she's in her golden zone for a goal. A killer playstyle that kid got." Lavinho said as he rested his back on the walls. You looked like you were dancing on the field so beautifully and elegantly. He would know since he was a dancer. And now he wonders if you had any backgrounds in dancing. The way you position your foot, your posture, the way you moved, and your isolation, it all reminded him of a dancer. He'll have to ask you.
"See! I told you guys. Y/n-chan is absolutely breathtaking when she plays." Bachira said excitedly. He had you play with him before, and he had a taste of your true ego before. Needless to say, it was one of the reasons why he had a crush on you somewhat. Your posture and the way you moved with a ball at the time to him was the perfect form for dribbling. And so, he would ask you for help in training and well, it was brutal but fun.
"Hmm, now I know your hidden side, Y/n. That crazy four-eyes definitely picked the right person to be the manager of these losers." Kaiser whispered under his breath.

“All Your’n”
Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw x Reader
Summary: You and Bradley had been best friends for a while. You’d both wanted more but the other didn’t know until you declare him yours after a fight.
Content: fluff, swearing, FLUFF
GIF credit: @betty-draper
Based on the song “All Your’n” by Tyler Childers
It’d been a shitty day.
All day long, you had been dealing with the Dagger Squad and their stupid antics. Everyone was irritating you and you didn’t know why.
No, you knew why.
It was Bradley’s fault.
The night before, you’d watched him flirt with one of the skankiest aviator you’d ever met—Sunny—at Hard Deck. While you two weren’t together, you’d hoped he wouldn’t go so low. Especially with her. He knew you and Sunny had a problem with one another and being your best friend, Bradley had vowed to you he would never fuck with her.
I guess things change.
It started like any night at Hard Deck, Bradley and Jake picking a girl Jake should flirt with and Bradley telling Natasha and Bob he didn’t think Jake would do it.
“He’s being a little too cocky,” you hear Nat tell Bradley. “If he wants the red head to like him, he should’ve just gotten her a drink like a normal guy instead of showing off his darts skills.”
“Wait hold on,” you tell her, pointing to Jake and the red head across the bar. “Look at what he’s doing.”
“That son of a bitch,” you hear Bradley mutter to your left.
Jake had just tapped his cheek, the red head moving to kiss him before he turns his head quickly, catching her lips with his.
“That was annoyingly smooth,” he says with an eye roll. He finishes his beer before turning to the group and asking, “Anyone want another?”
Payback, Coyote, Fanboy, Natasha, and you all cheerfully say, “Fuck yes” causing Bradley to shake his head with a smile and look to Bob.
“Help me carry them all?” Bob nods, following Bradley’s broad and muscular form to the bar where Penny greets them with smiles.
You turn to Nat who’s watching you with a smile.
“Wanna play a game of pool, Domino?” She asks.
You shrug, “Why not? I have to school your ass again.”
“I let you win that one time and now you have an ego,” she laughs.
You’re in the middle of starting the game when you see Sunny walk into the bar and make a beeline for Rooster at the bar.
Her blonde hair was loose, falling down her neck and brushing the seams of her sundress.
“When did she get the time to change into that?” Natasha asks from your right.
“Who fucking knows,” you respond, rolling your eyes.
Behind you, Coyote whistles as Sunny, Bob and Rooster approach with beers in hand. “Damn, Sunny. You look good.”
“Thanks,” she smiles, flipping her hair over her shoulder. “I did it for Bradshaw here.”
Fucking bitch.
Bradley’s brows raise in question as he takes a swig of his beer and hands you yours. “For me? Why?”
Sunny laughs. “I’ve been sending you hints for past few months. Haven’t you noticed?”
“Honestly no,” Bradley tells her. “I’ve had my eyes on someone else.”
At that everyone turns to you, but you’re too busy looking at Sunny. Her eyes narrow on you before she sweetly smiles before wrapping her arms around Bradley’s broad shoulders.
“Can you show me how to play pool?” She asks.
“I guess, Seresin’s better than I am,” he tells her. “Don’t tell him I said that.”
You watch as Sunny leads him to the pool table across from yours, Bradley’s eyes apologetic as he begins to show her how to play.
“Easy girl,” you hear Jake say behind you. You turn to see him sipping his beer, an arm around the red head. “He knows who he belongs to. No need to get worked up.”
“Fuck off, Bagman.” You seethe.
By the end of the night, Sunny was drunk as hell, dancing on tables and doing everything she could to keep Bradley by her side. It was 11:45 PM when you finally had enough.
“I think imma head out,” you tell Phoenix.
“Do you want me to get Bradley?” She asks.
You turn to where Sunny’s legs were propped on Rooster’s lap, Bradley’s hand comfortably on her ankle and smile lazily on his lips.
You shake your head and roll your eyes. “Nah, let him have more time with his new girlfriend.”
He didn’t even bother to text you how and if you got home that night. And that’s what was pissing you off the most.
Not that he had broken the one promise you asked him to never do, but that he never even called you to make sure you were alright.
Sunny must’ve been really good in bed. Of course she was. She was the squad’s biggest flirt, and that says something because Hangman is the man-whore.
Anyway, it wasn’t like you stayed up all night waiting for his call.
That would’ve been pitiful.
Your last straw today had been when you saw Sunny and Bradley talking y one of the jets, Sunny’s hand on his chest laughing at something he’d said.
Your blood was boiling. You wanted to slap the smile off her face, or worse pummel her into the ground with your boots.
“Domino,” you hear Natasha call to your left. “What’s wrong?”
“What makes you think somethings wrong?” You ask.
“Your face is unusually bitchier,” Jake says from behind.
“Maybe it’s because everyone has been annoying the shit out of me,” you spit back.
“Everyone, or Bradshaw?” He asks, a smirk forming.
“Fuck off, Seresin,” you seethe, clenching your jaw from saying it too loudly for everyone else to hear.
“C’mon, Y/L/N,” he starts. “We all know you’re sweet on Bradshaw.”
“Hangman,” Natasha warns.
“What it’s true?” He counters. He points, flicking between you and Bradley behind you. “They’ve been inseparable for years. Plus, we all see the way they look each other. He’s as much hers and she is his. They should just kiss and get it over with. Then, we won’t have to deal with her mood swings when Sunny starts acting a fool.”
“Seresin, shut. The fuck. Up.” You seethe. “You don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“I may not look like the brightest, but I have eyes,” he tells you, squaring his shoulders and smiling. “We can see how much it kills you that Sunny—”
“I’m warning you…”
“—has made the moves on Bradshaw, even after you two had that vow,” he continues. “Just go claim him!”
“SHUT THE FUCK UP SERESIN.” You yell, causing everyone in the hangar to turn to where you two are standing—Bradley and Sunny included.
Your cheeks feel warm, you know you’re blushing and hard. Behind you, you feel a hand in your shoulder and when you turn, you find Maverick standing there. His face is masked in calm but you know he’s probably as angry as he can be.
“Go take a walk,” he tells you.
You’re shaking in anger and embarrassment, but you nod. Pushing past him, you take off, passing by a smug-faced Sunny and dumbfoundedly confused Bradley.
“See ya, Domino,” Sunny says as you pass them. She laughs before adding, “Fucking psycho.”
That makes you stop in your tracks because what the actual fuck?
You turn to face her, walking right up to her, and getting within an inch of her face.
“What did you say?” You ask.
Fear fills her eyes and she pulls Bradley close to her. “Nothing.”
You look to where she’s holding Bradley by the bicep, then up at Bradley who’s confused and hopefully feeling your disappointment.
You roll your eyes, feeling the angry tears coming. “Whatever. You deserve her.”
You’re halfway to the tarmac when you feel a large hand wrap around your wrist. You’re spun around to face Bradley who looks confused.
“What’s your deal?” He asks. “I didn’t hear from you last night and you didn’t even tell me you left Hard Deck. And now, you’re acting all annoyed and lashing out on everyone.”
“No I’m not,” you respond.
“Don’t think on I didn’t notice your groaning all day, Y/N,” he scolds. “You’ve been on one all day. What’s wrong?”
You rub your nose angrily before shaking your head and turning away from him. “You. You’re what’s wrong.”
“Why?” Bradley’s brown eyes are soft, brows furrowed in confusion and you can’t help but feel the urge to slap the puppy dog eyes out of him.
“You broke our vow!” You spit. “You fucked Sunny even after you said you never would. And then on top of that, you didn’t notice I left or you did and you were too busy with Sunny to bother to text or call me to see if I was alright or if I got home.”
You were pacing, wildly waving your hands as you speak. “And what hurts the most is that you did that without batting an eye. I thought—”
You stop talking. You can’t bring yourself to admit what you’d been wanting to for the past few years you’d known Bradley. You loved him, and you thought he loved you back.
But you guess not.
“You thought what?” Bradley asks, shouting over the jets flying to the left of you. His brows were so furrowed, you thought they’d stay that way.
You take a few deep breaths, trying to regulate your anger and frustration.
“I thought you would’ve—,” you start to shout back, blinking back tears. “I thought you would’ve chosen me instead.”
Bradley only stares at you, shocked. You’re a good few paces away from him so you angrily shake your head, wipe your eyes with the back of your hands, and begin to walk away.
But his strong hand on your wrist stops you in your tracks.
“What makes you think I didn’t choose you?” Bradley asks.
“What’re you talking about?” You ask. “I saw you with Sunny.”
“Last night, nothing happened,” he tells you.
“What?”
He shakes his head, a small smile forming on his mustached face. “I took her home and then left. My phone died at the bar and I didn’t think you’d be awake when I got home.”
You only stare up at him.
“I was gonna check on you today, but you gave me the cold shoulder all morning,” he goes on.
“You didn’t sleep with her?” You ask.
“God, no,” he smiles.
That changed everything. If they didn’t sleep together, then what did he mean by choosing you?
“What did you mean,” you start. “About choosing me?”
“Y/N,” he starts, hand rising to cup your cheek. “Have you seriously not noticed?”
“Noticed what?” You ask.
“All I have are eyes for you. I have for a long time,” he tells you. “I’ve loved you from the moment I first met you. I’ll love you until my lungs give out. You’re mine, even if you don’t know or feel it. But you are.”
“I’m yours?” You ask, dumbfounded by his admission.
“Yes,” he laughs.
You smile, bringing your hand to his on your cheek. Happy tears fill your eyes as you tiptoe to kiss him, his mustache tickling your nose and making you smile into the kiss. Your heart lurches at the thought of Bradley loving you as long as you’ve loved him, the fact that you’re kissing him amplifying that feeling.
“Good, because I’m all yours,” you smile. “And you’re all mine.”

‘cause you’re so smooth
summary: phoenix invites the boys to her salsa class, big mistake.
pairing: bob floyd x fem!reader
word count: 3k+
warnings: swearing, alcohol mentions, suggestive nature lols, me not knowing anything about salsa
my return to writing with a fic i teased over a year ago!! i hope you all enjoy
ps requests r open :p
“Nix, if you think I want to spend my Sunday evening learning to salsa dance with a bunch of soccer moms then I think your concussion hasn’t healed properly.” Jake sasses in response to Nat’s invitation.
“Yeah, I’m sorry Nat but Sunday is my chill out day, when else am I gonna beat Fitch’s ass on cod?” Fanboy reasons.
Natasha knew it was a stretch asking the boys to join her salsa dancing class, but she thought it was important for them to get out more. At the moment, seemingly all they did was trudge from work to the Hard Deck over and over again.
She sighs, “it would be good for you guys to get out more, y’know?”
“I’ll go, Nat,” Bob smiles, nodding to her from where he is perched on a stool behind her.
“Thank you, Bob.” Nat nods back to him, “the rest of you can suck it.”
“Hey!” Bradley yells as he appears back from the bar, beers in tow, “what did we say about using that type of language?”
“Shut up Dadley,” Nat rolls her eyes as Bradley flicks his tongue out before handing her a beer.
“As much as I’d truly love to attend that class ‘Nix, I’m already a salsa pro and I wouldn’t want you to feel embarrassed about your skills,” Bradley declares, before taking an obnoxious sip of his beer.
“Yeah fuckin’ right, and my dad is prima ballerina,” Jake snorts.
“Let’s not discredit Papa Seresin, I saw him tear Boogie Wonderland up at your sister’s wedding.” Coyote nods.
“Yeah and even that shit was better than what Rooster could pull off,” Jake decides.
Bradley only shrugs at the jibe, a lazy smirk plastered onto his face, which serves only to piss Jake off more.
“Dance off?” Fanboy proposes, standing to head to the jukebox.
“No?” Jake frowns.
Fanboy drops back to his seat with a sigh, “was worth a shot.”
Nat shakes her head with a snort and brings the conversation back to the matter at hand.
“Look it’s fine, I’m just saying I think you guys would enjoy it!” She reasons.
“I’m sure it’ll be fun!” Bob adds happily.
Nat can only sigh at the lack of response.
Bob is already waiting outside the community centre when Nat arrives, looking down and nervously picking at a thread on the bottom of his gym shorts.
“You ready?” Nat questions, trying to alleviate his nerves.
When Bob looks up his brows unfurl and he lets a small smile sip onto his face.
“Yeah, sure, let’s do this!” He pumps his fist a little awkwardly.
Nat can only chuckle in response as she makes her way to the room at the left of the reception where the class is held. You’re stood by the door chatting with one of the older women in your class when Nat comes into your view.
“Natasha! How’s my best student?” You tease, stepping towards her.
“I’m great, thanks!” Nat blushes before gesturing to Bob, “I hope you don’t mind, I brought a friend.”
Bob sucks in a breath as you finally lock eyes with him. Shit. You were beautiful and those leggings were doing you an undoubted amount of favours.
Sadly, Bob had an incredibly annoying habit he was unable to shake. It was known as “embarrassing himself in front of beautiful women” and that seemed to strike him just as you stuck your manicured hand out to shake his own.
The breath that Bob had sucked in caught in his throat which was drying up increasingly as he took you in, leading to an unprecedented coughing fit doubling him over. What seemed to make it worse was your shocked gasp and immediate move to lean over him and pay his back gently. Bob tried not to focus on your cleavage directly next to his face and instead on regulating his breathing. It was proving difficult, especially when he could hear Nat cackling at his misfortune from behind him.
Once almost fully back to normal, you squeeze his bicep and chuckle,
“I don’t think I’ve ever quite literally taken someone’s breath away!” You giggle, voice oh so sweet.
Bob can’t even let himself feel embarrassed with the way your soft hand feels on his arm.
“I’m so sorry about that,” he cringes.
“Don’t worry about it,” you smile reassuringly.
Nat is growing seemingly agitated by Bob’s lingering near the door so she steers him forwards away from you.
“Best get set up!” She announces, dragging him into the room.
The classroom is spacious, a high ceiling and large windows on the left wall. The wall facing the door is covered in mirrors that amplify the light in the area.
Before Bob can speak up again, two men who look to be in their late 40s rush over towards Natasha. They’re the complete opposite of one another, the first who reaches for Natasha is tanned and has dark curling hair with flecks of grey throughout.
“Natasha! Darling it is so great to see you!” He exclaims with a slight accent, holding her hand in his.
The other has embraced the grey in his hair, he’s relatively pale but has clearly kept his physique, he nods towards Bob with a glint of something in his eye, “I thought he wasn’t your type?”
Nat snorts, clueing Bob in finally on what the two men were hinting at.
“My best friend, boys don’t worry,” she teases.
“Thank God, I’ve been trying to set you up with my niece for how long now?” The dark haired man smiles.
“I know, I’m sorry, I’m always busy at the moment,” she shrugs apologetically before turning back to Bob, “Bob this is Marco and Luke.”
They both shake his hand and size him up as they do so, the grey haired one (Luke) declares.
“He’s cute, Nat, where have you been hiding him?” He prods.
Bob exhales at the approval and watches as Nat breaks out into laughter. “Away from you!”
Marco and Luke break into laughter alongside Nat and Bob can’t help himself but join. Just as they’re all catching their breath, Bob jumps out of his skin again as he feels his hand on his shoulder.
“Boys, we’re being welcoming to our newcomer aren’t we?” You hum.
Your hip is touching Bob’s and the soft skin of your hand on his shoulder has him malfunctioning, luckily he isn’t forced into replying (or choking) this time.
“Of course we are beautiful, what do you think of us?” Marco gasps in faux shock.
“I think that I know what you two are like,” you roll your eyes before making your way to the front of the room.
You send Bob a sly wink before finally beginning, “It’s so great to see you all again!”
Everyone in the room blurts out greetings at you as you begin, “We’ll continue on from last week,” you strut over to the stereo in the corner and a latin pop track floats out into the room and Bob vaguely recognises the tune.
Marco and Luke are quick to start fluidly moving around the floor space and Bob notices that others in the room are doing the same. You make your way quickly over to him and place your hand on the small of his back, straightening his posture.
“I don’t expect you to get it immediately,” you smile into his ear, “we’ll start off with some basics and turn variations.”
Bob hopes you can’t see the nervous perspiration already forming on the back of his neck and nods a little too eagerly at your words. He looks back to Nat for some encouragement but she’s already dancing and chatting with a group of women next to the tall windows.
“I don’t bite,” You giggle, shocking Bob who looks back to see you holding your hand out for him to grab onto.
“Sorry, I’m not the best dancer-” Bob’s self depreciation is swiftly disrupted by you placing his hand on your waist and the other in your own.
“All the more for me to work with,” you smile, and Bob feels himself smiling back.
Although a tad clunky, Bob manages not to step on your toes and has some surprisingly fluid hip movement which intrigues you ever so slightly.
By the last ten minutes of the class, Bob is twirling Marco around as Luke and Nat chat to you about technique.
“What were you nervous about?” Marco probes Bob, “you’re a natural!”
Bob can only chuckle shyly in response and he glances over at your frame. Marco seems to notice Bob’s longing glances and slowly stops their dance.
“Go for it.”
“What?” Bob splutters.
“She’s been making googoo eyes at you the whole time mister, don’t pretend you haven’t noticed.”
Bob reels for a moment at Marcos admission before straightening up. “You think?”
Marco rolls his eyes. “I know.”
Before Bob can reach you you’re already strutting back towards the stereo to lower the volume of the music and gather everyone’s attention.
“Thank you so much everyone! You’ve all been brilliant today and I can’t wait to see you next week!” You beam at everyone.
People begin to gather to chat and start to disperse and you begin to gather your own belongings, stopping to make conversation with others as you do so. Luke and Nat join Bob and Marco with sly smirks on their faces.
“So…” Nat begins, “You’ll be coming back next week I presume?”
Bob flushes at Nat’s knowing look. “Yeah,” he looks to you, “definitely.”
Bob didn’t mean to let it slip. Like seriously, his lips were so sealed. Air tight.
“But HOW hot are we talking?” Mickey slurs over the nth shot he’d done with Bob at the Hard Deck’s happy hour.
So maybe not air tight.
It was Thursday evening and the rest of the daggers had politely declined drinks with Fanboy, but Bob (the ever dutiful friend) had accepted, hoping to be in and out within the hour. But alas, here they were.
“Fuckin’ smoking,” Bob mimes an explosion with his hands as Mickey nods enthusiastically to his answer.
“I choked on air when I saw her and almost popped a boner during a Justin Timberlake song,” Bob continues to ramble, once given the chance to talk about you he clearly wasn’t going to stop.
“And when is this class?” Mickey slumps closer to Bob, tequila breath hot on his neck.
“Ummmm, Sunday evening at 6 I think?” Bob nods, remembering the details Nat had sent him in a text the week previous.
“Good to know,” Mickey hums, reaching his hand forward to signal for another round, knocking someone’s drink over in the process. “Oops.”
Bob is quick to drag Mickey away from the bar top after that, realising they’d probably overdone it a tad for a weekday evening.
As the cool sea breeze hits Bob’s flushed face whilst him and Mickey wait outside the Hard Deck for their uber, he can’t help but let his mind drift to you, what you were potentially up to, do you teach other classes during the week? Do you dance professionally? God, you definitely could, the way your hips moved-
Bob shook his head, as if to get the image of you stuck in his mind out. He looked to Mickey hanging off of his arm, he was looking to the ground and shaking as if to stave off the imminent vomit that was about to leave his mouth any second now.
“Let’s get you home man,” Bob pats Mickey on the head, dragging him towards their Uber pulling up.
“Hey, Bob!” Nat yells across the parking lot, catching the back of her friend’s tall frame leant against a pillar near the front of the community center.
When Bob turns around, Nat notices two people next to him who she was not expecting to see.
“Fitch? Fanboy?” Nat cocks her head to the side. “I thought you guys were too busy to come?”
Nat’s accusatory eyes meet Bob’s sheepish expression as he awkwardly clears his throat.
“We heard the teacher was hot as fuck.” Payback shrugs.
Fanboy giggles next to him in excitement, “I’ve been practicing-”
“Bob I swear-” Natasha begins, finger pointing right into Bob’s chest.
“Sup, biatches!” Jake yells, alerting everyone of his and Javy’s presence. “Who’s ready to get their salsa on?”
Nat spins around on her heel, eyes shooting daggers into Jake and Javy.
“Bob, I’m going to kill you.” She states, eerily calm.
“Oh come on Phe! You wanted us here just last week!” Jake exclaims, walking round to slap Bob on the shoulder and greet Payback and Fanboy behind him.
“Yeah! When I wanted you guys to get out and do something productive! Not fuck my lovely salsa teacher, who by the way, was not socialised by wolves! So will absolutely not be charmed by any of you fools!”
With that, Nat turns and walks into the community center, leaving the boys to sprint in after her.
“At least this can’t get any worse,” Nat mutters to herself, pulling the door to your studio open.
“Are you fucking kidding me?” Nat stills in the doorway, the rest of the boys behind her peeking their heads in.
“What now?” Bob asks guiltily.
Nat opens the door fully and allows the men behind her to file into the studio, where her fellow classmates are stood in a semi circle whooping and hollering at you dancing in the middle with none other than Bradley Bradshaw.
“Fucking Bradshaw,” Jake scoffs, pushing his way ahead whilst checking himself out in the full length mirrors that line the opposite wall of the room.
“Chicken never told us he could dance!” Jake yells over the latin music filling the room, successfully interrupting your dance with Bradley.
Bradley’s head whips to the side at the sound of that familiar ear grating voice. He gives you an apologetic look as he walks over to begin squabbling with a man you presume he knows. The commotion between the boys alerts you to the presence of Natasha and Bob as well as three other unfamiliar men. When Bradley had introduced himself with a smirk and a drawling voice as a friend of Natasha’s you had to wonder whether all of her colleagues were so handsome and by the looks of it, they were.
Nat is quick to walk over to you with an apologetic smile. “I want to apologise in advance for the next hour. They are insufferable.”
You look behind her to where the gaggle of men she calls her close friends are stood, you can see Marco and Luke itching to get their claws in and you have to giggle. This should be interesting.
After instructing the rest of your class to continue practicing the routine you had been working on, you figure it was only fair to come and personally consult your newest joiners.
As the boys (and Nat) notice you wandering towards them, they all begin to elbow each other like school boys giggling amongst themselves. Bob and Nat can only keep their embarrassment internal for so long.
When you come to a stop in front of them, the man you’ve come to learn as Jake smiles dazzlingly and stretches his arms above his head,
“God it is hot in here!” He begins to reach for the bottom of his shirt, aiming to impress you with his toned stomach.
“The A/C is on full blast dumbass.” Nat swats at the back of Jake’s head, causing him to drop his shirt again and rub at his temple. “Ow!”
Snickers fall from Javy and Mickey, who quickly straighten themselves up when they see you casting your eyes over them.
“As I said to Bob last week, with all my new starters I’ll begin with some basics for you guys and then we can ease into a routine,” you smile, heading towards Bradley and Nat.
“Since you two already have some experience you can help me teach!”
Bradley preens under your praise, already assuming the role of teacher’s pet, whilst Nat looks mildly irritated at having to teach her imbecilic friends how to dance.
“Alright guys! let’s partner up!” you shout at them, giggling as they all rush towards you, you note how Bob lingers back behind his more extroverted friends and grin.
“I should clarify, I meant with each other.” You shoo them backwards and watch as they couple up.
Mickey and Reuben clap each other on the back and Javy and Jake nod at one another leaving Bob, stood on his own. You saunter towards him and grab at arm, dragging him to the front with you.
“Looks like you’re with me,” you tease.
“Uh, who do you want me to partner up with?” Bradley scratches at his head obliviously.
You cock your head to the side with a confused laugh.
“I hate you so much right now,” Nat spews, gripping Bradley’s arm and pulling him into position with her.
“Oh, yeah. Right, sorry Nat.” Bradley chuckles.
Your lessons continues with explaining how someone will have to take the lead and the other will follow, and you wander around positioning their hands and postures correctly.
“Javy, you are like a brother to me, but your hands are too fucking low right now.” Jake grits through this teeth.
“Right! Ha, sorry man,” Javy’s hands shoots back up towards the middle of Jake’s back.
Bob is still apprehensive when he places his hands on your waist, but you’re quick to affirm him in his position. Leaning towards him you whisper, “don’t worry you’re still my favourite.”
A smile graces his face at that and he relaxes in your grip.
“Right guys! We’re gonna start with some turns and variations now!”
You quickly learn that trying to wrangle these men is proving difficult, as Payback almost spins Fanboy into a wall after zoning out stating at how your hips moved.
“I’m good bro, don’t worry,” Mickey is quick to readjust himself, hoping the room stops spinning soon.
You can’t help but laugh when Javy attempts to dip Jake to the floor in a move he thought would impress you, but it seems he forgot to account for how tall and heavy Jake is, as he goes toppling down with him.
“Fuck dude! You’re heavy!” Javy groans, rubbing his knee. Jake clearly didn’t take kindly to his words as he shoves back at Javy childishly.
“Boys! Come on get up!” You snap, trying to sound stern but still fighting off giggles.
Jake and Javy are quick to get back on their feet, but you catch them in your peripheral poking and pinching each other when they think you aren’t looking.
Even Bradley who was so light on his feet when he was showing you his moves earlier, is clearly distracted, constantly stepping on Nat’s feet as they practice variations.
“If you step on my toe one more time, Rooster I swear to God, you will not see daylight again,” Nat threatens.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry! She’s just so…” Bradley trails off as he watches you dance slowly with Bob, stopping every now and then to correct him kindly or answer questions from others in your class.
“I know! And you guys are scaring her off by acting crazy.” Nat sighs, moving back as she senses Bradley’s feet heading for her toes again.
“I mean I wouldn’t say crazy…” Bradley scratches the back of his neck.
“Well I walked in to see you spinning her around like you’re a pro on dancing with the stars so maybe you should reevaluate.”
“You think I’m that good?” Bradley smirks to himself.
“Oh shut up,” Nat rolls her eyes and looks back to the rest of her friends around the room.
Payback and Fanboy were continually stumbling around in circles as they each try to catch your eye, pissing off everyone else in the room as they bumped and knocked into others. She caught Marco and Luke’s judgy eyes flicking back and forth between her and her friends and groaned.
Jake and Javy looked either one wrong move away from fucking or fighting, Nat couldn’t really tell.
God this was embarrassing.
Luckily, your voice rings out across the room, interrupting her moping.
“Thank you guys for today! And Thank you to my newcomers!” you gesture to the group of men stumbling over each other and stifle a laugh.
“I’ll see you all next week!”
Your regular attenders start filing out slowly, some coming over to chat and collect their things. You can see Nat trying to drag her friends away out they seem intent on lingering long enough to catch some time alone with you.
“You guys might as well go, she clearly wants me.” Jake shrugs, pulling the front of his shirt up to wipe his face.
Mickey is quick to dispute, “Are you kidding me? I twirled like a ballerina, I’m so in.”
Nat is moments away from body slamming her friends who she once loved when it goes silent around her. She figures you finally made you way over.
“Hey guys, thanks so much for joining today! I’m really sorry I’ve got to get going but um- ”
You pause and sense eyes on you.
“Bob, I was just wondering if I could get your number?” you smile, walking towards him and squeezing his arm. “You know, to talk about how we can improve your technique,” your reasoning clear as day even with your coverup
“Yeah! Yes, of course I mean,” Bob composes himself, taking your phone with shaking hands and typing in his number.
“Great,” you wink, retrieving your phone, “I’ll text you.”
You end with that, sauntering past the group and waving goodbye to Nat with a knowing look.
Everyone seems stunned by your words, but mostly Bob who blinks slowly, seemingly still in shock by your acknowledgement.
Nat finally breaks into laughter, doubling over at the confused faces of her other friends.
“Man!” She shouts through her giggles, “you just cannot make that shit up!”
The grumbles around her don’t even phase her as she goes to pick up her bag and head for the door, a group of downtrodden looking men following her and Bob with a newfound pep in his step.
“By the way Rooster, how come you actually are so good?” Nat asks as they make their way into the parking lot.
Bradley stills, silent as he contemplates answering.
“If I tell you, you have to promise to not go searching for anything.” He looks around at his friends.
Following their nods he continues, “I used to compete professionally, when I was like 13, my mom forced me to.” Bradley cringes at the memory of his tween self in sparkly shirts his mom always hand picked out for him in the most hideous colours.
Bradley looks back up to see Jake grinning mischievously at his phone, and his stomach drops.
“Is this you?” Jake smirks, turning his phone around to show everyone an old video on youtube titled.

all the way || mickey garcia
a/n: i’m watching *look both ways* and his character (gabe) is so HELLO??? like??? im crying… (yes this is a pregnancy fic)
https://www.tumblr.com/melgolbach/787735411669778432/home-mickey-garcia
pt 2 here!!
your eyes lock into the stick that was in your hands. two lines. mickey won’t even be back in 2 months, how are you going to do this alone? you breathe in and you breathe out very slowly and grab your phone. this would have to be dealt with a phone call, you didn’t wanna scare mickey when he came home just to see your big belly.
your fingers shakily press each number on the dial screen, putting in your boyfriend’s number and then pressing call. you’re expecting it not to be picked up, so you already have a message sent out to him saying 𝘸𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘬.
you pressed the green call button ay the bottom, your hands slightly shaking as you bring it up to your ear. it rings four times, and the line finally went off. “hey it’s mickey.., or fanboy. i’m either on duty or somewhere busy, please leave a message after the beep.” the line went dead with a long beeping noise, and your mouth opened up. “hi mickey, it’s me. please let me know when you get the chance to talk to me. it’s urgent, like… life or death urgent, i guess? anyways.. just let me know.” you and the call, and you look up to the ceiling. “what am i gonna do?” you whisper to yourself, closing your eyes.
────── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──────
it was 20:30 when mickey got done with his 500 push ups, being the second to last done. his chest went up and down, sweat all over him. “that was easy as making cake,” he chuckled out. hang-man took his sweet time this round, and laughed from the floor.
“okay man.” he stood up from his spot, “i know i can do 500 push ups but the middle really does get to you.” jake ended. “what i meant was that i can’t make cake, hang-man. i always burn it.” jake understood the meaning now. “yeah, well… let’s hit the showers. man you smell,” he laughed, the back of his hand slapping mickey in the chest lightly. “says you,” mickey spoke back.
the two men walk their way towards the showers, talking about the day they had and how far it is until both of them could go home with their loved ones. “how is theodora by the way? she walking now?” mickey asked, asking about jake’s daughter. “oh man she’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. yeah she’s walking and it’s a nightmare to be honest. one minute she’s there, and the next thing you know she’s trying to go upstairs by herself.” jake laughed.
“talking about babies makes me want to have one, but honestly? i feel like i leave too much to actually see them grow up. what if i miss the child birth as well? miss everything?” mickey questioned, his head spinning in circles with every thought about leaving his future ‘what if’ kid. “oh yeah that’s the down side of working in the military, leaving your wife and kid to defend themselves and grow up with out you. it breaks my heart every time i’m called back to station.. which now it’s nothing since i have them both in miramar now.” jake shrugged.
mickey hummed. “you thinking about getting your girlfriend pregnant or what?” jake laughed, shoving the shorter man. “no.. no, plus we haven’t really thought so far into our lives. i told her if she were to be with me all the way i’d be gone from time to time, the first time i left she left messages every day or even close to every hour. like yes, i love her man but i can’t be there all the time you know?” he shrugged, taking his clothes off casually and putting them on the wooden bench, hang-man doing the same as well. “yeah i get that. the first chick i was with was texting me 24/7, got my phone confiscated because of that. clingy people just don’t do me, man. i feel like people in the military in general don’t do clingy.” mickey nodded at that.
they’re done with what they’re doing, going to the lockers to get changed into brand new clothing. mickey’s phone is on his bag. as he wraps the white towel around his waist, he grabs it and taps on the screen to load the phone on. “oh shit.” he muttered, as he saw two missed notifications. “what?” hang-man asked, “i just got a man’s worst nightmare text and then voicemail.” mickey gulped, his other free hand going through his wet curls. “which is…” jake moved his hand, signaling to mickey what the message was. “we need to talk,” mickey showed him his phone, and what jake saw he whistled. “good luck man,” hang-man walked out of the locker room, shutting the door on his way out.
mickey walked over to a cold grey metal bench, sitting on it as his tags hung from his chest. he pressed the call back button, as he waited for his lover to pick it up. three beeps went on until the other line could be heard, “hey mickey.” he sucked in a breath, “hey mi alma. what’s up?” he asked, a soft smile planted on his face. “uh.. so you know how.., a month ago before you left we did the big bang and well, you left?” you stuttered. his eyebrows knot together in confusion, wondering why that was important for him to know now.
the door that opened to the locker room could be heard, rooster, bob, payback, rueben, and coyote all came in laughing with whatever was said by them. their eyes immediately landed on mickey, who’s only pair of clothing was covered by a towel with a hand in his phone looking dead on serious. an emotion never seen with their teammate. bob hushed them, quietness was heard again in the locker other than the clanging of opening the lockers and stuff being moved around. “mhm,” could be heard from mickey. “well.. uhm. how— i don’t want to say it but,” you stumble. “mi vida?” he breathed out, waiting for whatever it is you needed to tell him.
“i’m pregnant..” you whisper out, still seeming as tense on the other line to mickey. “what?” he asked in disbelief, “i’m..pregnant, did you hear me?” you whisper, hoping he didn’t hear you and not getting mad. “no.. no i heard you, god i’m sorry mi amor, give me a minute.” he pressed the mute button on the call after you said ‘okay’, as he put the phone down on the bench besides him.
he stared at the floor with wide eyes, thoughts flowing into his head. “but we were safe.” he mumbled. bob was the only one who could clearly hear him since his locker was right near the bench, the others far away on the other side of the room, still trying to eavesdrop into the conversation. bob’s eyes went wide, and he looked back behind him to tell the group to ‘quit it out.’ “i used a.. a condom, she was on the pill. we were safe,” he whispered. “mickey?” a girl’s voice could be heard through the locker room. he unmuted himself, “m here mi chica,” he mumbled. “okay. okay. i have two months left,” he spoke. “wh-when did you find out? how long have you known?” he asked you.
“for three hours. told you as soon as i could.” you answered back. “okay.. okay. when i get back, we’re gonna get through this okay?” mickey told you. “you’re.. not mad?” you asked him, a bit surprised. his face looked offended on the other line, but you couldn’t tell.
“mad? sweetheart, i’m… i’m a bit concerned, scared even. but i’d never be mad about any of this, we cannot control this. it’s.. it’s life.” he breathed. “i wish you were here right now..,” you mumble. “i know, i know me too. but as soon as i’m home, i’m all yours. all the way.” mickey said. “all the way?” you repeated, he hummed. “m sorry my love, i wish i could stay on the phone but i gotta go. i’ll try to check in every chance i get okay?” he told you, you nodded but forgot he couldn’t see it. “okay. call you later?” he hummed. “call you later amor. i love you, bye.” the call ended, and he stared up ahead in disbelief.
the gang behind him stood, all wanting to know what happened. “so like… you gonna spill the secret?” coyote’s voice broke the silence. “dude,” rooster stared at him in shock. “what? we’re all thinking it.” rueben said. “she’s…” mickey’s voice broke them up and had their attention on him in an instant. “she’s..” most of them repeated.
“she’s pregnant.”

🌟 Danny Ramirez Masterlist
The hum of the jukebox, the smell of fries and ocean air , the Hard Deck always felt like home to you. Maybe it was the way the warm wood floor creaked under your feet when you carried a tray of beers, or maybe it was the way your boyfriend’s laugh blended into the crackle of the pool table and the clinking glasses.
“Hey, sweetheart. Two more longnecks for Phoenix and Coyote when you get a sec,” Penny called from behind the bar.
“Got it,” you said, popping the caps and sliding them onto your tray. You threw a look over your shoulder , Mickey sat near the end of the bar, laughing with Rooster about something you couldn’t hear.
When his eyes found yours, that easy grin of his turned soft, and he lifted his beer in a little toast just for you.
“Eyes on your table, Garcia,” you teased as you walked over to him, setting the beers down for the pilots behind him.
“Eyes are exactly where they should be, baby,” Mickey said, tugging you gently closer by your apron strings. He smelled like jet fuel and cheap soap and a hint of your laundry detergent. Home.
“You’re gonna get me in trouble,” you said, but you leaned in anyway, pressing a kiss to his cheek.
Penny raised an eyebrow at you from the bar , but she was smiling, so you knew she didn’t really care.
Later, when the bar emptied out and the jukebox switched to softer songs, you found Mickey leaning against the pool table, nursing the last of his beer. His eyes were on you as you stacked pint glasses and wiped down the counter.
“You wanna help or just supervise?” you asked, flicking the rag at him.
He caught it easily and tossed it back on the bar. “Supervising’s important work. Gotta make sure my girl closes up safe.”
“You’re sweet,” you said dryly.
“I’m serious,” he said, pushing off the table and coming around to stand behind you. His hands slid around your waist, warm palms on your stomach, chin resting on your shoulder. “Hey. Take a break.”
You let out a soft laugh. “I’ve got four tables to wipe down, Garcia.”
“I’ll help. Come outside with me first. Five minutes.”
You turned to look at him , he looked serious now, in that quiet way he rarely did. The goofy smile was gone, replaced by something softer. “Okay,” you said. “Five minutes.”
Outside, the salt air hit your skin, sticky and cool. The roar of the ocean mixed with the hum of the neon sign overhead. Mickey leaned back against the railing, looking up at the stars.
“Everything okay?” you asked, folding your arms.
“Yeah.” He reached for your hand and tugged you between his legs. “Just… gotta tell you something.”
Your heart did a tiny somersault. “You’re not breaking up with me in the parking lot of my job, right?”
He barked out a laugh. “What? No. Never.”
You softened. “Then what’s up?”
He ran his thumbs along your hips, like he was grounding himself. “I’m leaving tomorrow. Early.”
Your breath caught. “Leaving where?”
“Got called up. Special detachment. Top secret, you know how it is,” he said with a small shrug, like it was no big deal , but his eyes gave him away.
You felt it in your chest, that little twist of pride and fear that always came when he talked about flying. “How long?”
“Could be a week. Could be a month.” He lifted a shoulder. “Not sure yet.”
You looked down at your shoes. “Is it dangerous?”
“It’s always dangerous, babe,” he said gently. “You know that.”
“Yeah.” You met his eyes again, trying to hold back the worry. “You gonna tell me where?”
“You know I can’t.” He brushed your hair back from your face. “But I swear, I’ll come back. And when I do, I’m gonna take you to that fancy place in San Diego with the oysters you keep talking about.”
You laughed wetly. “You hate oysters.”
“I’ll learn to love them for you.”
You pressed your forehead to his. “I just hate when you leave.”
“I know.” He kissed you, soft and slow, like he was trying to memorize you. “I hate it too.”
Inside, you sat on the bar while he helped you stack chairs , though really, he just leaned them all precariously and you had to fix them. Every now and then, his hand brushed yours, or he’d steal a kiss when you passed by.
“You gonna be good while I’m gone?” he asked, leaning his hip against the bar.
“No. I’m gonna drink all the beer, steal Penny’s jukebox, and run off with Rooster.”
He laughed. “Rooster? Baby, you could do better than Rooster.”
“I know,” you said. “I’ve got you.”
The clock on the wall crept past midnight. You locked the door, turned off the sign. The place felt quieter than usual, like it knew you were trying to stretch out every last second with him.
In the parking lot, he leaned against your car while you tugged your bag over your shoulder. You wrapped your arms around his neck and he hugged you so tight you felt your feet leave the ground.
“Promise me you’ll text when you can,” you murmured.
“Promise.” He pressed his mouth to your hair. “Promise me you’ll eat real food and sleep.”
“Don’t tell me what to do.”
He chuckled. “Bossy.”
“Look who’s talking.”
You kissed him in the glow of the streetlight , slow, lingering, the kind that tasted like salt and beer and unspoken things. When you pulled back, his eyes were glassy.
“Don’t cry, Garcia.”
“I’m not crying. It’s the wind.”
You laughed and brushed your thumb under his eye anyway. “Go save the world, Fanboy.”
“I’ll come back to you.” He cupped your face. “Always.”
Back at your apartment, you lay awake long after he dropped you off , his hoodie still clinging to your shoulders, his scent on your skin. Your phone buzzed just after 2 a.m.
Mickey: Can’t sleep. You up?
You smiled at the glow of his name. You: Always.
A second later, your phone rang. You answered it before it could finish the first buzz.
“Hey,” you whispered.
“Hey, baby.” His voice was soft, rough with tiredness. “Can you talk for a bit?”
“Yeah,” you said. You curled up tighter under the blanket, like you could pretend he was there beside you. “Tell me what you’re thinking about.”
“You. Just you,” he said. You could hear the sound of waves behind him , he’d gone back to the beach, probably pacing by the pier like he always did before a deployment.
“Are you scared?” you asked.
He hesitated. “A little.”
Your chest squeezed. “You’ll be okay.”
“I will,” he said. “You make me brave, you know that?”
You closed your eyes. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” he said, so soft you almost missed it under the hush of the wind. “Hey. When I get back…”
“Yeah?”
“Maybe we should think about getting a place together. You and me. No more sleeping alone.”
Your eyes flew open. “Are you serious?”
He laughed under his breath. “Yeah. I’m serious. I want you in my bed every night. I wanna make you pancakes in the morning and fight about closet space.”
You covered your mouth with your hand, trying not to laugh too loudly. “We’re gonna fight about your ugly sneakers, too.”
“Those are classic, baby. Don’t disrespect my drip.”
You snorted. “God, I miss you already.”
“I’m right here,” he said. “Always gonna be right here.”
When you finally hung up, the sun was starting to push against the curtains. You curled into the pillow that still smelled like him and drifted off to sleep , dreaming of oysters you’d probably hate and a little apartment with a closet too small for all his flight suits.
And somewhere far above the ocean, Mickey “Fanboy” Garcia checked the last text you sent him before takeoff.
You: Come home to me, okay?
And he smiled behind his oxygen mask, heart steady in his chest as the jet roared to life.
Mickey: Always.

'Oh, why must I be plagued by such 'ineptitude' around me? I gave you one simple task: bring me Idia Shroud. And what did you do? You captured two random students and held them hostage!'
Arcane Hunter A: But boss, one of them is a fae, and I remember you were fanboying over someone like that on TV.
Arcane Hunter B: *nudges him* *giving his partner a look to shut up*
Arcane Hunter A: What?
'...'
'A fae?'
Arcane Hunter A: Yeah. And they're good-looking too.
*The mysterious figure seems to have been reminded of something.*
'Ah, of course... They're also enrolled at Night Raven College... Haha! How could I have overlooked such an important detail?'
Arcane Hunter A: Uh... Boss?
'I suppose I can pardon your failure on this mission... for the time being.'
MC: For those who call themselves Arcane Hunters, they certainly seem to lack the ability to properly secure hostages.
MC: Anyway, how are you feeling, Ortho?
Ortho: I feel much better now, and I’ve already sent our coordinates to my brother.
Ortho: Also, thank you for the repair.
MC: *smiles* I only managed to gather the tools you needed, but you did all the work.
Ortho: *giggles* I was impressed when you managed to sneak out without anyone noticing.
MC: *chuckles then stops*
Ortho: They're back.
MC: Yes, and they've brought someone with them.
*The Arcane Hunters entered the room, accompanying the person in front of them.*
Arcane Hunter A: *noticed that Ortho is awake*
Arcane Hunter A: Huh, looks like the robot kid can fix himself.
Arcane Hunter B: S.T.Y.X technology is truly impressive.
Ortho: ...
'Now, now, don’t frighten the poor child. We wouldn’t want to appear rude in front of our esteemed guest, would we? *looking at MC and smiles*
MC: ...
MC: Pardon me, but I don't believe we've met before.
'Indeed, we haven't had the pleasure, for I am merely an admirer, utterly captivated by your performance in the Sing and Dance Competition. Ah, forgive me—I seem to have neglected a proper introduction.
*kneels in front of them, taking MC's hand*
I am Remington Ashford, 23 years old, and still searching for a partner who will truly appreciate me. *kisses the back of their hand, gazing into their eyes*
MC: ...
Ortho: Ew.
Arcane Hunters: This little—
Malleus and Ruggie: *both seething in anger*
Malleus: Shroud, are you familiar with this Ashford?
Idia: *sigh* Yes. He's the boss of the AetherTech Industries.
Ruggie: Sounds bougie, but it doesn't ring a bell.
Idia: Of course, it just opened not too long ago.
Malleus: Then, does he need something from you?
Idia: I don't know. *frowns* But whatever it is, I'll make sure he'll regret hurting Ortho.

word count: 652

bangchan - 방찬
you were putting your hair into this hairstyle, when chan entered the bathroom
this mans jaw would DROP
but he would fall in love all over again (kisses everywhere for the next straight week)
"baby, why haven't seen your beautiful hair like this before?!"
would spend the entire day researching about your hair
listens to you talk about your hair
almost fainted at the amount of hair products you owned
"Jesus Christ, that's like 50 products!"
probably could almost faint again at the beauty supply store
when he saw the different color eco gels on the shelf, he just had to ask
"baby what's the difference between the brown and green gel?"
most DEFINITELY would rest his head in it (with consent obviously)
poor channie would bring home the wrong hair products for you
"it's the wrong one? i'm going back"
you would have to convince him it's fine and that he doesn't have to go
moral of this, he just fell in love all over again

leeknow - 리노
you had been doing your hair in the bathroom while leeknow went to go get lunch and ran some errands
he opened the door to find Dori, Soonie, and Doongie at your feet
"i was looking for y- wow."
absolutely flabbergasted at how big your puffs were
you originally thought he didn't like it, due to the fact that your hair was straight when you two got together
"jagiya, it looks so good on you."
accidentally got his hands stuck in it (bless this kitty.)
found out about amount of hair products from Doongie while you were at work
"how does y/n use this many..."
but he didn't judge because he didn't know much about it (also why would he judge his beautiful black girlfriend..??????)
the next morning you were doing your hair again
he had been hugging you from behind, head on your shoulder
the cats were on counter following your every move along with leeknow
was just completely entranced.
had to untangle a cat's paw or 2 out your hair (dori and soonie were curious)
is protective over you, especially to any jokes or certain looks about your hair
"don't mind them jagiya. they're like this because they don't have as much hair as you."
always smiled when you kept your hair out like this and not straightened

changbin - 창빈
you just left your hair in a afro
did a QUADRUPLE take when he walked past the bathroom
"sweetheart your hair was this big and fluffy THE WHOLE TIME?!"
would fall in love all over again (this mf had actual heart eyes)
is completely distracted in the studio until jisung asked him
"changbin what's wrong? this is like the fifth time you've been spaced out."
proceeds to absolutely gush and become a fanboy over your hair
thinks about it all the damn time
the proudest smile on his face when you get compliments
buys literally anything at the beauty supply for you
has been at the beauty supply so many times that the employees just know
practically lives in your afro (loves the feeling and the scent of all the hair products
will most DEFINITELY throw a dumbell at anyone who looks at you and your hair wrong while you two are on your gym date
got matching bonnets for you two
is completely inlove again

hyunjin - 현진
you tied your hair up, making sure it was out of the way
when hyunjin entered the bathroom it was like a play
he gasped dramatically
"i've got an heaven sent girlfriend. i'm the luckiest man alive."
"is it bad...?"
"I LOVE THEM"
taking his eyes off of you was not an option
came back from an errand run with two bags filled with hair products
did his research and found temporary hair dye for your hair type
shaped your puffs into stars with the most delicate touch ever
painted you (for his eyes and yours only)
refills hair products without you having to ask
absolutely adores hair supply runs with you (even if he gets looks, he just wants you to be happy
wrote poems about you and hair
showed his members SO many photos of it
bought so many matching bonnets for the two of you

secret wife
pairing: Bob Floyd x fem!reader
warnings: none, all fluff
summary: When you go to pick up Bob at the base the dagger squad finds out that Bob's been keeping a wife from them.
word count: 1k
A/N: Thanks for 3k followers!
Bob pulled his phone out of his locker as the guys all piled into the locker room behind him. There was a text from you awaiting Bob.
I’m waiting in the lobby for you. Don’t take too long. xoxo
“Did you guys see the hot girl in the lobby?” Coyote asked as he walked into the locker room. Bob smirked to himself as he started to take off his flight suit.
“Who do you think she is?” Fanboy pondered.
“I was gonna find out after we got changed,” Rooster said.
“Don’t bother. Bet she’s a recruit’s girlfriend,” Payback suggested.
“Who do you think?” Asked Hangman.
“I don’t know,” Payback responded. “But I know what a woman in love looks like.”
“I don’t believe that,” Hangman teased Payback.
“I’m married,” Payback pointed out.
“So you tell us, but we’ve never seen your wife,” Rooster taunted.
“Her picture is on my dash,” Payback said.
“Could be anyone,” Fanboy joined in.
“You’ve met her, Fanboy,” Payback said.
“You can’t prove anything,” Fanboy teased. Bob was quietly enjoying the conversation as he grabbed the rest of his things. He slipped his bag over his shoulders and closed his locker.
“See y’all tomorrow,” Bob said as he headed out to meet you in the lobby. When he rounded the corner his smile widened as you stood to greet him. You were wearing paint stained jeans and an old t-shirt that used to be Bob’s, but it had been years since that was true. It was yours now, just like he was.
“You changed out of the flight suit,” you said forlornly when Bob walked up.
“It was all sweaty, angel,” Bob told you.
“I wanted to take it off you though,” you whined. Bob gave you a cheeky grin.
“You want me to put on the white uniform when I get home?” Bob offered. He leaned down and kissed you tenderly before you could answer.
“The hot girl is your girlfriend?” Hangman practically shouted from behind Bob. He turned over his shoulder to see the whole squad watching the two of you.
“Wife, actually,” Bob said. “Been meaning to introduce ya.”
“You didn’t say you have a wife!” Phoenix exclaimed.
“Didn’t come up,” Bob said. “We’ve only known each other for a month.” Everyone gawked at Bob, thinking a month was plenty of time to let your friends know you have a wife.
“He likes to keep me protected from his work,” you piped in when Bob failed to explain himself. Bob wound his fingers between yours. He lifted your hand and pressed a kiss to the back of it.
“What’s your name?” Phoenix asked.
“Y/N,” you told her.
“I can’t believe you didn’t tell me,” Phoenix murmured. You could hear in her voice that she felt betrayed by Bob. You knew he wouldn’t notice though. You wanted to stop him from hurting her more.
“I keep my ring on my dog tags,” Bob said, pulling them up from his shirt to prove it.
“I thought it was your dad’s,” Phoenix told him. “You always talk about him.”
“Bobby’s told me a lot about you,” you interjected. “I was hoping you would have dinner with us. I’d like to make the pilot who saved my Bobby a good meal.” Phoenix met your eye and you gave her a warm smile. She gave a tiny nod and smiled back.
“I’d love to, ma’am,” Phoenix said.
“I’m her wingman,” Rooster called. “Could say that I kept Bobby safe too.” Bob blushed brightly.
“Payback and I were on the mission,” Fanboy said.
“I saved Bob’s wingman,” Hangman added. You looked up at Bob in question.
“They know you’re the one who makes my lunches now,” Bob said. You giggled. You always made Bob his lunches. When he was deployed he didn’t get good home cooked meals, so you made sure he had them three times a day when he was home with you.
“Well, some of you might have to sit on the couch, but I’d be happy to cook for my husband’s friends,” you said.
“I can’t believe that baby on board has a wife and you don’t even have a girlfriend,” Hangman teased Rooster.
“You don’t either,” Rooster spit back.
“No woman can hold me down,” Hangman joked.
“He’s the one your sister would like, right?” You asked, trying to keep your voice quiet.
“You’ve got a sister?” Hangman called out.
“Yeah,” Bob said. “And I’m quite sure she could hold you down if she wanted.” Hangman’s eyes widened. You chuckled.
“You’re going to set him up with your sister?” Rooster complained.
“That’s y/n’s scheme. She wants my sister to live near us,” Bob explained.
“She’s funnier than you, Bobby,” you said.
“You do spend a lot of time laughing at me together,” Bob teased. He didn’t really mind though. Everytime he had come home to find you and his sister in tears from laughing so hard it had made him even more sure that he’d chosen the right person to marry.
“Well, when do I get to meet her?” Hangman asked, a wide smirk on his face.
“I’ll have her come over for dinner with all of you,” you said. “Next Sunday at 6:00. Don’t be late,” you told them. Then you tugged on Bob’s hand, signaling you wanted to go home.
“Bye, guys,” Bob said. “See ya in the morning.” With that he slung his arm around your shoulders and led you out of the base.
“I can’t believe Bob didn’t tell us he has a wife,” Payback muttered.
“I can’t believe Hangman’s the first choice for his sister,” Fanboy said.
“Why not? You think Bob wants to be related to any of you?” Hangman asked proudly. Rooster snorted.
“Yes. I would have thought he’d want any of us before you.”
A/N: There is a part two of the dinner now available

Any Kind Of Life
bob floyd x fem!aviator!reader
call sign: Raven
The Hard Deck looks the same as every pilot bar I’ve ever stepped into: rowdy, golden-lit, thick with the smell of beer and bravado. But tonight, it feels different — heavier, like fate is pushing me toward something I’m not ready for.
I push through the door and am met with music and shouting and pool balls cracking across felt. The place is packed. Figures lean over the bar, laugh at the dartboard, cheer at the jukebox. I spot Phoenix first — she’s got her long legs kicked up on a barstool and a beer in one hand, already laughing at something Fanboy just said.
“Raven!” she calls, grinning when she sees me. “Finally!”
I smirk and shake my head. “Y’all started the party without me?”
“Fashionably late,” she teases, reaching for me. “C’mon, everyone’s here—”
But I stop walking.
Because I see him.
Bob Floyd.
Standing right there, next to Payback and Hangman. Same soft brown curls, same stupidly kind face. Glasses a little fogged from the warmth of the bar. And his smile—
It falters the second he sees me.
The world spins. My breath lodges in my throat. I haven’t seen him in years. Years. Not since—
“Hey, Floyd,” Phoenix says, glancing between us. “You two know each oth—?”
“Are you serious right now?” I blurt, barely louder than the pounding in my chest. My arms are stiff at my sides. “Phoenix. Who invited him?”
She blinks. “What—?”
“You didn’t know?” Fanboy asks, eyebrows raised. “That’s Bob. He’s—”
“I know who he is,” I snap. “Believe me.”
Hangman’s looking between us like he just smelled drama. “Someone want to tell the rest of the class what the hell is going on here?”
Phoenix turns to me slowly. “Girl…”
I laugh — but it’s hollow, humorless. My eyes burn, but I keep going anyway.
“Bob and I…” I gesture vaguely, jaw tight. “We were together. All four years of high school. Freshman year, sophomore year — homecoming, prom, all of it. We graduated together. Sat next to each other. We had plans, real ones.”
Bob shifts uncomfortably, but I don’t look at him.
“And then,” I say, voice cracking, “he took me out for dinner. Thought it was just another date. Turns out it was the last one. Because he sat me down and broke up with me — said he enlisted in the Navy, said he didn’t want me to wait for him.”
Now my eyes sting for real. The heat behind them is unbearable.
“I begged him. Told him we could make it work. That I’d wait. That we were meant for this. And he just—he left.”
A tear falls. I wipe it away fast, like I can erase the whole memory with one swipe. But the bar’s gone quiet around us.
Phoenix stands frozen beside me, mouth parted.
“Excuse me,” I whisper, turning before the dam fully breaks.
I push past everyone — past their pitying stares and confused faces — and shove open the back doors of the bar. The ocean wind hits my face, cool and briny and too much, not enough.
I walk across the sand until my legs give out and I sit, hard, on the beach. The tide rolls in like it doesn’t care that my world just tilted on its axis.
Phoenix joins me a moment later.
She sits quietly beside me, pulling her knees up. “So that’s Bob.”
I huff a broken laugh. “That’s Bob.”
“You loved him.”
“I still do,” I admit. “And I hate that. I hate that I never moved on. I dated, sure, but no one ever came close. He was it for me.”
Phoenix rests her chin on her knee. “Girl… that’s real.”
We sit in silence, letting the waves speak for us.
Back inside, the squad is reeling.
“You let that go?” Hangman asks, brows raised at Bob.
“I didn’t want her to wait for me,” Bob says quietly, eyes still on the door I disappeared through. “Didn’t want her to wonder every day if I’d come back.”
Fanboy leans back. “Man, you broke a baddie’s heart.”
“She’s not just a baddie,” Bob says, voice steady. “She’s the love of my life.”
There’s a beat of silence.
Then Hangman shrugs, cocky as ever. “Well, if you’re not gonna fix it, I might.”
Bob doesn’t blink.
He walks straight out the door.
Down the beach, Phoenix nudges me. “Company coming.”
I turn and see him.
Bob, lit up by the moon and the distant glow of the bar, walking toward us like he’s moving through fog. When he reaches us, he stops short.
“Phoenix,” he says gently. “Can I talk to her?”
Phoenix looks at me. I nod.
She pats my leg, stands, and leaves without a word.
Bob drops into the sand next to me, not too close, not too far.
“I didn’t know you’d be here,” he says.
“I didn’t know you would be,” I whisper, staring at the waves.
“I thought I was doing the right thing,” he says. “Letting you go. Giving you the chance to find someone who’d stay.”
I look at him now. “You didn’t even give me a choice.”
“I know.” He looks down at his hands. “And I’ve regretted it every day.”
I exhale shakily. “Why now? Why show up now?”
“Because I’m not letting you slip away again. If there’s even a chance that you still feel the same…”
I reach over and take his hand.
“I never stopped.”
He looks at me then, like he can’t believe it.
And under the stars, in the sand, the ache between us finally softens. Not gone — not healed. But maybe… maybe this time, it could be different.
———
The next morning came quick, sun slicing through the slats of the base housing blinds, dragging Raven out of her dreams with the weight of last night still heavy in her chest.
Seeing Bob again had hit her harder than she thought. All those years she spent burying that part of her—four years of flight school, proving herself, pushing past heartbreak—only for it all to unravel the second she locked eyes with him again.
She was up early. Earlier than usual. Earlier than necessary. A run on the beach didn’t clear her head like she wanted, but it helped. The crash of the waves reminded her she was here now. Not in Texas. Not seventeen. Not sobbing into her steering wheel after he left her in that empty diner parking lot.
Back in her room, she pulled on her flight suit, brushed her hair back into a tight ponytail, and stared at herself in the mirror.
You’re not that girl anymore. You’re Raven.
She rolled her shoulders back and headed out.
⸻
The hangar was buzzing by the time she got there—pilots milling around, instructors calling names, someone laughing too loud over the comms. Raven spotted Phoenix near the simulators and walked over, pretending her stomach hadn’t twisted the second she noticed Bob already across the room.
He was talking to Fanboy and Payback, still in his gear, aviators tucked into the collar of his suit. He looked good. Unfairly good.
“Hey,” Phoenix greeted, her voice still tinged with concern from last night’s beach breakdown. “You okay?”
“I’m fine,” Raven said quickly. “I don’t have time not to be.”
“Copy that,” Phoenix said, but didn’t push.
Just then, Cyclone and Warlock stepped out of the main office.
“Alright, pilots!” Cyclone called out, voice crisp and commanding. “Time to assign today’s exercise teams. You’re gonna pair up with a different pilot than usual.”
Groans from the crowd.
Cyclone continued, “Names will be drawn at random. Let’s keep it professional.”
Warlock smirked as he read the first pair: “Phoenix and Hangman.”
Hangman clapped like he’d just won a trophy. “Luck of the draw, baby!”
Phoenix rolled her eyes and muttered, “More like curse of the skies.”
“Payback and Coyote.”
“Fanboy and Halo.”
Then Warlock looked down at the next card, brows quirking just slightly before reading it out:
“Raven and Bob.”
Her breath caught.
Bob stiffened across the hangar.
They both looked at each other—years, heartbreak, and unspoken words all crashing in a moment of stunned silence.
Someone whistled. Probably Hangman.
“Now that’s a pairing,” he snorted.
Raven crossed her arms and lifted her chin. “Let’s get to work, Floyd.”
Bob nodded, nervous as hell, but there was something different in his eyes this time. Something solid. Maybe even determined.
As they walked toward the jets, Phoenix shot her a look that said, You good?
Raven didn’t answer.
Not yet.
———
The sun beat down on the tarmac, heat lines dancing off the metal of the fighter jets as ground crew bustled around prepping gear. Raven pulled her gloves on tight, flexing her fingers once. She could feel him behind her before she even turned around.
Bob.
She hadn’t said a word since their names were called. Not on the walk over, not during brief. She didn’t need to. The silence between them said enough.
“I’ll take lead,” she said flatly, not bothering to look at him as she climbed into the cockpit.
“Yes, ma’am,” Bob replied quietly, tone unreadable.
The cockpit felt smaller than it should’ve—her in the front, Bob right behind her, his voice soft in her ear through the comms as they taxied onto the runway.
“Clear for takeoff, Raven,” his voice said.
“Copy that,” she said.
And then, they were airborne.
Up there, everything else melted away. Her pulse steadied, eyes sharp, hands sure. They worked like they used to—not as teenagers in love, but as pilots. Cohesive. Clean. Sharp turns, clean passes, seamless formations. The only thing left between them was cloud and instinct.
He didn’t say anything unnecessary. Didn’t push. Didn’t falter.
It almost made her mad—how easy it was to fall back into rhythm with him.
The moment their wheels hit the ground again, the weight dropped right back onto her chest.
She popped the canopy and was down the ladder before the techs had even finished clipping safety lines. Boots hit the tarmac. Helmet in hand. Jaw tight.
“Raven—” Bob’s voice called from behind her.
But she was already walking.
Fast.
Toward nowhere in particular. Just away.
Phoenix caught sight of her from across the hangar and frowned. She called out, “You okay?”
“Peachy,” Raven muttered, brushing past her.
Bob stood near the jet, helmet still tucked under his arm, brows furrowed with that same helpless expression she’d seen the night he left her.
Fanboy and Payback were standing a few feet away, whispering.
“Yo, she stormed off,” Fanboy muttered.
Payback elbowed him. “Can you blame her?”
Bob didn’t move. He watched her go, lips parted like he wanted to call out again—but didn’t.
He knew better than to chase her now.
He’d already walked away once.
Now he’d have to earn the right to get close again.
——
The sun was barely kissing the edge of the sky when she slipped out of her flight suit, every muscle in her back tense. Raven’s hands trembled—not from adrenaline, not from fear. From anger. From memory. From him.
“Raven,” his voice came softly behind her, and she didn’t even flinch. She just rolled her jaw, teeth clenched tight, and kept walking toward the locker bay.
“Can we talk?” Bob asked, following.
She snorted, shaking her head. “Now you wanna talk?”
“Please,” he said, not touching her, not daring. “Just—just give me five minutes. That’s all I’m asking.”
She stopped, turned on him so fast he nearly walked into her. Her eyes snapped up to his, burning. “You had four years and a goddamn prom night. You don’t get to ask for five minutes.”
Bob looked like she’d slapped him.
“I didn’t come here to fight,” he said gently, brows drawn. “I just… I didn’t know you’d be here. If I had—”
“Oh, what?” she cut him off, voice cracking at the edge. “You would’ve prepared a speech? Worn a tie? Warned your fiancée I was gonna be on base?”
“There’s no fiancée,” he said immediately.
“Doesn’t matter,” she snapped. “Because I didn’t come here for you. I’m here to fly. That’s it.”
Bob’s lips parted like he wanted to say more. Instead, he swallowed it. Good. She didn’t want an apology. Not when it wouldn’t change a thing.
“I’m not the same girl you left in Texas, Bob,” she said, voice low. “You don’t get to come back into my life and pretend that you are.”
She didn’t wait for a reply. She turned on her heel, boots heavy against the concrete, and walked.
Didn’t look back.
Not once.
———
Raven didn’t cry—not in front of him. But her lungs burned as she stormed past the lockers and out toward the shaded corner near the tarmac, the roar of jet engines covering the sound of her uneven breathing.
Phoenix found her first.
She didn’t say anything right away—just leaned against the chain-link fence beside her, arms crossed like a quiet shield.
“You good?” she finally asked, voice soft.
“Nope,” Raven muttered, throat tight. “But I will be.”
“Didn’t know you two had history. That was a hell of a stare-down.”
“Yeah. We were high school sweethearts,” Raven said with a shaky breath. “All four years. I thought we were forever.”
Phoenix turned her head, brows raised.
“Then he dumped me after graduation. Took me to dinner—like it was a date—just to tell me he was leaving for the Navy and didn’t want me to wait.”
“That’s… cold.”
“I begged him to let me try. Said I didn’t care where he went, I’d wait. But he said no. Said I deserved someone who’d be there.” Her voice cracked again. “So I joined the Navy myself. Got shipped to a different coast. And now I’m here. And so is he. And I hate that he still makes my chest feel like this.”
Phoenix looked like she wanted to reach over and punch someone.
Instead, Hangman sauntered up, looking all too comfortable in the tension.
“Well damn,” he said with a drawl. “I knew there was drama but this is daytime soap levels.”
Raven glared at him. “Now’s not the time.”
Hangman held his hands up, cocky grin still intact. “Look, all I’m saying is—if Bob doesn’t want you now, I do. Been waitin’ for a shot since you walked in, Raven.”
Phoenix elbowed him in the ribs. “Helpful, Bagman.”
He winced, then got a little more serious. “But real talk? Bob’s a good guy. I’ve flown with him. He’s quiet, sure, but he’s solid. Not the kind of guy who lets go of things easy. If he’s lookin’ at you like that? He never stopped thinking about you.”
Raven opened her mouth to respond—when a familiar figure came into view across the tarmac.
Bob. Jogging. Face flushed, curls messy from the wind.
But more than that—he was holding something.
She froze when she saw what it was.
A small, worn photo frame.
She knew that frame. It sat on her nightstand for all four years of high school. A candid photo, taken on one of those disposable cameras: her and Bob on the hood of his truck, grinning like fools. She’d given it to him the night before graduation. He was supposed to take it to his dorm. She thought he’d thrown it out years ago.
But here it was.
“I kept it,” he said breathlessly, slowing to a walk as he approached. “Through every deployment. Every move. It’s been with me the whole time.”
She blinked, the words sticking in her throat.
“You gave it to me because you said it would remind me where home was,” he added. “And it did. Still does.”
Phoenix backed up, quiet as a shadow. Hangman gave Bob a little nod, then dragged himself away too.
And suddenly, it was just the two of them.
“Why now?” she whispered. “Why bring it now?”
“Because I know I don’t deserve anything from you,” Bob said, eyes searching hers. “But if I don’t say something—if I don’t try—I’ll regret it for the rest of my life.”
The silence between them buzzed like static.
She didn’t move toward him.
But she didn’t move away either.
———
Flashback: “Homecoming”
Senior Year – Wichita Falls, Texas
Bob’s room was small, but clean in the way only a boy raised by sweet southern parents could manage. His cologne lingered in the air, subtle and warm—like cedarwood and something a little nervous.
She stood by his closet mirror, smoothing the fabric of her dress while he fumbled with his tie in the reflection behind her.
“You good back there, Floyd?” she asked, a smirk teasing her lips as she leaned slightly toward the mirror.
“I—yeah, just—this tie is, um, trying to kill me.”
She turned and crossed the room toward him, barefoot for now, hair curled soft around her shoulders, still glowing from the chaos of getting ready. Bob’s hands froze mid-knot, fingers twitching as she stepped into his space.
“Let me.”
She gently took over the knot, her fingers brushing against the base of his throat. Bob tried not to visibly shiver, but she felt it. That tension that had always simmered between them—tender, intense, like lightning waiting to strike.
“You look beautiful,” he blurted, voice too loud in the quiet room.
She paused, looked up.
His cheeks flushed immediately. “I mean. You always do. But… tonight, you just—you look like something I’m gonna dream about for the rest of my life.”
She blinked. Soft. Surprised.
And then that teasing smile returned.
“Well, you clean up pretty nice yourself, Bobby.”
“Bobby,” he repeated, trying not to grin too hard. “You only call me that when you’re about to kiss me.”
She tilted her head, mock-innocent. “Oh really?”
Then she kissed him.
Slow and certain, the kind of kiss that felt like a promise. Like there would be a thousand more after tonight. Like their whole future was already written in quiet moments just like this.
When they pulled apart, Bob just stared at her.
“You know,” she said softly, hands still resting on his chest, “I think tonight’s gonna be one of those memories I hold onto forever.”
He swallowed. “Yeah. Me too.”
From the hallway, his mom called out, “You two ready for pictures?”
They both groaned and rolled their eyes in perfect sync—just before lacing fingers and heading down the stairs.
———
Present Day
The Hard Deck was packed, buzzing, alive. Sunglasses hung low, boots up on tables, and egos even higher than the jets parked on the tarmac. You were tucked in a booth with Phoenix, Fanboy, and Payback, sipping on a beer that had long gone warm, eyes darting everywhere but in the direction of Bob Floyd.
He hadn’t approached. Not yet.
And that was fine.
It was better this way.
Then it happened.
That guitar riff. That gritty opening line. That crowd roar.
“Tommy used to work on the docks…”
You froze.
Phoenix turned so fast she almost knocked over her drink. “Is that—?”
“No,” you said quickly, heart already slamming against your ribs. “No way.”
But it was.
It was your song.
Not some slow dance tearjerker or a moody ballad. No. This was the song. The one that played at the end of every high school football game. The one Bob blasted from his truck as you both sang every word at the top of your lungs, no matter how out of breath or off-key. The one you screamed with your head hanging out the window, wind in your hair, his hand tangled with yours over the center console.
You shot to your feet.
“Where are you going?” Fanboy blinked.
“I need air,” you snapped, already pushing through the crowd.
The chorus was coming. You could feel it—Whoa, we’re halfway there…—and if you heard it from inside those four walls, you were going to lose it.
You stepped outside just as the voices inside erupted, all of them screaming the lyrics like it was gospel.
You gripped the railing, knuckles white.
He still remembered. Or someone did. That song hadn’t come on by accident.
“God,” you muttered under your breath.
Then—footsteps.
You didn’t need to turn. You knew.
“Wasn’t me,” Bob said softly from behind you. His voice cracked, like he’d been holding back a thousand thoughts all night. “It just… started playing.”
You didn’t answer.
“I still can’t listen to it without hearing your voice,” he said after a beat. “Especially the scream part. You always screamed the loudest on the ‘prayer’ line.”
You let out a shaky laugh, the memory crashing in: you on his shoulders during that one pep rally, belting it out like it meant something. Like you were invincible. Like love and music and Bob Floyd could carry you through anything.
“We played this at prom,” you whispered.
“I know.”
You finally turned to look at him—and that was a mistake.
Because he looked exactly the same and completely different all at once. That Texas boy softness behind those tired eyes. His hands fidgeting at his sides like he wanted to hold you but didn’t know if he was allowed to anymore.
“I thought you were gone,” you said. “I thought I’d never see you again. And now you’re just… here. Like it’s normal.”
“I never wanted to leave you like that.”
“But you did.”
He stepped closer, slow and careful. “I thought it would hurt less if I walked away first.”
“You were wrong.”
He flinched—genuine, quiet pain flickering across his face. “I kept everything, you know. That varsity jacket you stole from me senior year? Still have it.”
You blinked. “You do not.”
“I do,” he said. “It still smells like your perfume. Kinda faint, but it’s there.”
Inside, the song was finishing—Take my hand, we’ll make it I swear…—and for a second, it felt like senior year all over again. Like maybe you were still just a girl in a borrowed jacket, dancing in a gravel lot under string lights with her high school sweetheart.
And maybe he still was.
“I miss you,” he whispered.
The door creaked again, and you both stiffened—but it was only Phoenix. She caught your eye and nodded, silently asking if you were okay.
You gave a half shrug.
Bob turned to go—then paused. “If you ever wanna sing it again… just say the word.”
Then he was gone.
And all that was left was the echo of your song… and the one person you swore you’d stopped loving.
———
The sun was just starting to sneak through the blinds when Raven stirred, caught somewhere between sleep and memory.
In her dream, she was seventeen again.
⸻
It was fall in Texas. Crisp air, fading heat, and golden light dripping through the trees. Bob’s old truck rumbled down a backroad, country music low on the radio — not twangy, just soft and familiar. She had her feet up on the dash, one of his sweatshirts drowning her shoulders, her head leaned toward the window.
He reached across the console and took her hand without a word.
They didn’t need to talk that day. It had been a long week — tests, parents, future plans hanging over them like storm clouds. But they always came back here when things got too loud. That stretch of quiet backroad that twisted through the fields like a secret.
He pulled off by the little creek near the bridge, where the trees overhead turned everything gold. It was their spot. No one else even knew about it.
They sat on the tailgate for hours. Talking, not talking. His head on her shoulder. Her fingers tracing lazy shapes on his arm.
At one point, he looked up at her with that drowsy half-smile, brushed her hair back behind her ear, and said softly, “I think if I ever love anyone, like really love them, it’s gonna be you.”
She hadn’t answered right away.
She just kissed him.
⸻
The sound of knocking pulled her from the dream, slow and reluctant. The sunlight had warmed the sheets, the room still soft with that golden haze. She blinked at the ceiling, throat tight, heart aching with something that still lived under her ribs.
She hadn’t remembered that day in years.
But now, all of it was so clear. His hoodie. His hand. The way his voice dipped when he said that. The feeling of being so sure, so safe in someone else’s gravity.
More knocking.
“Raven?” Phoenix’s voice. “You alive in there?”
She cleared her throat, forcing her voice to steady. “Yeah. I’m up.”
Phoenix didn’t press. “We’re headed to the hangar soon. Briefing at 0900.”
“I’ll be down in a sec.”
She sat up, rubbing her hands over her face. The dream clung like a second skin — warm, sad, impossibly tender.
Four years ago, she’d been someone’s whole world.
Now?
Now she wasn’t sure what they were.
———
Raven stepped onto the tarmac with her jaw set and her shades on, her Top Gun-issued gear weighed heavy on her shoulders — but nothing heavier than that damn dream still lingering in her chest.
The wind hit her face as she walked, boots hitting pavement in rhythm with her pulse.
Bob was already there.
He was standing beside Phoenix and Fanboy, checking something on his clipboard, but the second his eyes met hers—soft, startled, like he’d been waiting—her stomach flipped.
Don’t do this. Don’t start this again. She looked away fast.
“Morning, Raven!” Phoenix called with that easy grin, but it faltered just a bit when she saw her face. “Hey, you good?”
“I’m fine,” Raven muttered.
Phoenix tilted her head and leaned in, walking closer under the pretense of adjusting her glove. “You don’t look fine.”
“I had a dream,” Raven said, voice low. “About Bob. About us. Before.”
Phoenix exhaled softly through her nose. “Want me to trip him down the stairs?”
That earned her a smile—brief, but real.
“You’re too good to me.”
“Only because you’ve got that mysterious hot ex energy now. That’s dangerous stuff.”
Before Raven could answer, the rest of the crew trickled in—Fanboy, Payback, Coyote… and of course, Hangman, smug as ever with his aviators on and his stupid “I run the room” strut.
“Morning, folks,” Cyclone barked. “Briefing in five. Get your heads in the game.”
Everyone started shifting toward the hangar doors.
Hangman fell into step beside Raven, looking her up and down like he was reading headlines. “So,” he said, grinning, “are you always this intense before you absolutely ruin someone’s life, or is Bob just a special case?”
Raven blinked at him. “Excuse me?”
“Oh c’mon,” Hangman drawled. “You walk in like a storm cloud and homeboy looks like he saw a ghost. What did you do to him, sweetheart?”
Raven opened her mouth—probably to go for the throat—but Phoenix caught her wrist just in time.
“Easy, killer,” Phoenix whispered. “Don’t let that walking frat party get in your head.”
But Bob had heard it too.
He was looking at Hangman now, mouth tight, jaw clenched. Like he was seconds from saying something—or doing something.
Then his eyes flicked to Raven.
And there it was—a flash of that same look from the dream. The quiet kind. The kind that said I still mean it. All of it.
Raven dropped her eyes first.
Because she wasn’t ready.
Not yet.
———
The rain started sometime before dawn. Raven barely heard it at first — just the occasional patter on the roof of the barracks — but by the time she stepped outside in her flight suit, it was clear the day was canceled.
Sheets of water came down in unrelenting waves, grounding every bird in sight.
The sky was all gray fury and wind, but it was nothing compared to the tension already stirring in her chest.
Back inside the hangar, most of the squad was draped across crates or leaning against bulkheads, waiting for orders that wouldn’t come. She spotted Phoenix and Fanboy playing cards. Hangman had a football. Bob was across the room, talking quietly with Payback.
She pretended not to notice.
Raven shrugged off her soaked jacket, tossed it over a folding chair, and tried to blend in. She sat on a toolbox and kept her eyes on the floor, tapping the toe of her boot against the concrete. It didn’t help.
Of all the damn days to get grounded.
She knew it was coming — this moment where she’d have no excuse to run off, no cockpit to hide in, no simulation to bury herself in. Just a full day on the ground with him in the same building.
And not enough walls between them.
“Mind if I sit?”
Bob.
She looked up slowly, expecting him to already be pulling up a crate or trying too hard. But he wasn’t. He just stood there, unsure. Just like always.
The way he looked at her — like he still recognized her, like she still meant something — made her stomach twist.
“…Fine,” she said finally, shifting to the side.
He didn’t sit too close. Didn’t touch her. Just sat in silence beside her, their knees inches apart, the sound of the rain a steady hush between them.
“You hate me.” His voice was soft, barely above a whisper.
She stared ahead. “Not true.”
“But you’re mad.”
“I have every right to be.”
He nodded, swallowing hard. “I know.”
They didn’t talk for a long time after that. Just sat there while the hangar lights buzzed and the smell of jet fuel lingered.
Eventually, Raven leaned forward, resting her elbows on her knees. “It’s weird being back here with you. I thought I’d be angrier.”
“You shoved me,” he reminded her, a half-smile on his lips.
She didn’t return it. “Yeah, well. I waited four years for that.”
Bob looked down at his hands, quiet again. “I deserved worse.”
“Yeah,” she said again. Then softer: “But I still wanted to be the one flying next to you.”
That got his attention.
He turned toward her slowly, eyes wide like he wasn’t expecting that.
“I joined because of you,” she admitted. “I was so mad I wanted to prove something. And then… I got good. I stayed. But even now, even with everything—” She sighed. “You still make everything complicated.”
Bob was staring at her like he couldn’t breathe.
Raven stood up quickly. She wasn’t about to cry in a hangar surrounded by half the squad. “Don’t follow me.”
She turned to walk toward the side doors, the rain roaring louder outside, drowning the sound of her heartbeat in her ears.
But a few steps in, she felt his fingers catch her wrist.
He didn’t yank her. He didn’t force her to stop.
Just held it — like he was asking her not to go.
She looked back.
Bob’s eyes were soft, searching, almost pleading. “I never stopped loving you,” he whispered. “Not for a second.”
And then — like he realized he’d said too much — he let go.
Raven stepped back slowly, heart thudding.
She didn’t say anything.
Not yet.
Just turned, walked toward the storm, and disappeared behind the door.
———
She didn’t go out into the rain.
She didn’t go find Phoenix.
She didn’t even make it past the hallway just outside the hangar.
Raven ducked into a side room — one of those old briefing offices barely used anymore. The lights were dim, the windows fogged up from the weather. She didn’t bother turning anything on.
She just sat on the floor. Back against the wall. Knees pulled to her chest.
Then she pulled out her phone.
She hadn’t looked at these in years. She didn’t even realize they were still saved. But somehow, scrolling down, down, down — past training pics and base updates and blurry food photos — there they were.
Him.
Bob, still a teenager in some, with a mess of curls and that boyish smile that used to make her forget about everything else.
She tapped on one of the videos — a short one.
Senior year. His bedroom.
She was laughing so hard the camera was shaking, and Bob had his hand covering his face like he was embarrassed.
“Bobby, come onnnn,” her voice teased from behind the phone. “Say it again!”
He groaned. “No! It was dumb—”
“Say it!”
He laughed. That same shy, lopsided smile. “Fine. I said… I’d give you my notes and my soul if you just pay attention for once.”
The camera jostled again with her laugh. “Best boyfriend ever. Confirmed.”
The video ended.
She stared at the frozen frame of his face, paused mid-laugh.
Her throat tightened.
God, she had loved him.
So much.
It used to be so easy — sitting next to him in class, stealing sips of his Dr. Pepper, studying together at the library even though neither of them wanted to study.
And he always shared his notes. Always.
Even when she zoned out. Even when she was too tired to care.
He never once made her feel small for it.
Back then, everything felt like it would last forever.
She ran her fingers over the screen, then locked the phone and let it fall into her lap.
She didn’t realize she was crying until a tear hit her wrist.
Raven took a shaky breath, wiping her face with her sleeve.
She hated that this hurt so much.
She hated that seeing him brought it all back — the good, the bad, the everything.
Most of all, she hated that no matter how hard she tried to bury it…
She still loved him.
Still wanted to know if maybe — somehow — they could find their way back to each other.
But she didn’t know how to ask.
Didn’t know if she was brave enough.
Didn’t know if she could survive being left again.
A soft knock came at the door.
She didn’t answer. Just closed her eyes and stayed still.
The knock came again. “Raven?”
Bob’s voice.
Of course it was.
“I won’t come in. I just…” He paused. “I wanted you to know I’m still out here.”
She said nothing. Couldn’t.
“I’m not going anywhere this time.”
And then — silence.
Not the kind that felt like goodbye.
The kind that felt like waiting.
——
The door creaked open.
Raven stood there, eyes puffy and red-rimmed, but steady. Resolved. She looked at him like she’d looked at him a thousand times before — back when the world was small and love felt big.
Bob didn’t move. Not until she stepped aside.
Then he entered.
The room was silent. Still. The hum of the compound outside was distant. Here, it was just the two of them.
He turned to her. “I meant it. I’m not going anywhere.”
She swallowed hard, arms folded tight. “Then sit.”
They sat — not close, but not distant either. Just enough space for honesty.
Raven broke the silence first.
“I still love you.”
Bob’s breath caught. His lips parted slightly, like he didn’t believe she said it — like he’d dreamed it and now didn’t know what to do.
“I never stopped,” she continued. “And I hate that. I hate how much of me still wants this. Wants you. After everything.”
He reached forward, just a little. “I never—”
“I’m not finished,” she said, voice sharp but shaking.
He sat back.
“I’m willing to give you another chance.” She blinked fast, her jaw tight. “But I swear on everything, Bob… if you break my heart again — if I even feel the slightest bit of unworthiness or regret — I’m done.”
Her voice cracked then, and she let it.
“I’ll walk away, and I’ll never speak to you again. Not even if it’s work-related. Not even if it’s life or death. You’ll just… you’ll be gone. For real this time.”
Bob’s chest rose and fell in one deep breath.
He nodded once. “Okay.”
“No. I need to hear it.”
He looked her dead in the eyes, softer than she remembered but just as sure. “I give you my word. I’m not going to hurt you again. I’ll earn this… and I’ll earn you.”
Silence again.
But it felt different this time.
Like the start of something new built from something old.
She leaned back against the wall and let herself breathe again.
And for the first time in four years…
She didn’t feel alone.
